Stayed at this hotel for four nights in May. We were only booked in for three but we were having such a good time that we decided to stay an extra night. I can honestly say that it is the most family friendly hotel I've ever stayed in. We were a bit worried about being stuck in a hotel room with 2 small kids but what a pleasant surprise we got when we saw our room. It was very large and had a patio with an outdoor table and chairs and access to the garden. We could sit outside and watch our young daughter while she played in the garden. I would definitely recommend these garden rooms to anyone staying with children. The garden and the grounds are beautiful and I loved the fact that we had to walk through the garden to get to the breakfast room each morning. There is also a herb garden beside the kitchen and you can see the chefs out picking fresh herbs each day. I loved the fact that the cot we got for the baby was a proper wooden cot with a mattress. This is the only hotel that I know of that supplies proper cots for babies. The staff at this hotel are fantastic, especially in the restaurant. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The girls in the spa are also lovely as was the girls on reception. When we asked to stay the extra night they arranged it so that we wouldn't have to move to a different room. I could talk all day about the Ardilaun and the fantastic time we had here. We will definitely definitely be back here again!!

These guys complained that we made too much noise early in the morning, and decided to charge us extra "noise complaint" charges. When I asked how they had the right to do that, they said if I refused they would call the police. Naturally, as an American with a flight to catch, I was not too excited about dealing with foreign police.

Also, one of the front desk employees named Adam was by far the rudest, most unprofessional employees I have ever met. He was actually pushing the hotel to charge us.... very very strange.

It's the first time anything like this has ever happened to me.

The management here is outright criminal...

Dear 'Adam M',

We are very surprised that, following your stay with us, you have posted a review here on tripadvisor. We completely appreciate that there are many tripadvisor users who make decisions based on feedback they read here and so, to be fair and honest, we would have to say that we object to and completely reject your very strong comments which we feel have been written in quite an insulting manner.

All feedback from guests is documented here at the hotel - this is a standard procedure for us. It is noted by our night porter Adam that, on the night in question, it was necessary for him to visit your room on four separate occasions following a complaint from another guest in the hotel that they were being disturbed by the noise coming from your room. The last time that Adam visited your room was at 05:30.

As a result of the continued disturbance to the other guests throughout the night, their account had to be discounted.

We are surprised that no offer of apology came from you, prior to your departure, for the upset and inconvenience that you caused during your stay with us.

With the above said, we reject your criticism of our hotel.

I had high expectations because of the beautiful building and gardens upon entry. When I got to my room though, it didn't bring to mind "one of the finest hotels in Galway".

These are the reasons why I've rated this hotel as poor:
In the bathroom: the shower rod was made of 3 pieces and was buckling in 2 of the joints, making it difficult to slide the shower curtain; the shower faucets were mixed and matched (some plastic, some metal); the shower head was leaking on the setting it was last set at such that water was shooting in every direction when I turned it on (it was so unbelievable I actually started laughing); the tiling in the bathroom is nice and classic, but a section of it was replaced with basic grey tiles that look nothing like the rest and gives the impression that it was a patch-up job on the cheap (imagine a relatively new looking car, except one its doors has been replaced by one from a junk yard). In the room: the carpet and wallpaper were very dated; the room had an old musty smell that only an open window could solve; and a CRT tv that looked at least 10-15 years old (haven't seen one of these in a hotel in a long time). Calling the front desk was hit or miss, either it would ring about 8-10 times before someone picked up or no one would pick up at all. Maybe 30% of the time I walked by the front desk, there would be no staff there.

The good:
Breakfast was tasty and the service was impeccable. Access to the gym was easy and staff was very friendly; plenty of treadmills and machines, but the area with the freeweights is cramped (needs a new setup or reorganized). Location is great, about a 20-25 minute walk to the Spanish Arch. Hotel has a beautiful entrance and exterior, but it can't make up for all the other shortcomings!

We stayed here as part of a Gate One tour in June, and this was our favorite stop of the tour. The hotel is beautiful, the staff efficient and friendly, and our dinner was excellent. Our room was nicely decorated and the bathroom was gorgeous... LOVED the rainfall showerhead. Bonus: There was free WiFi throughout the hotel (something we found was definitely not the norm in Ireland). We took a cab downtown (about 8-10EUR depending on your driver) and had a wonderful time at the pubs listening to live music.

Highly recommend staying here next time you are in the Galway area!

We booked this hotel as the first 3 nights of a motoring holiday in Ireland for 20 people (10 cars) and were not disappointed.

All the staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful and could not do enough for us. They even organised transport for us all to go into Galway for a traditional Irish music evening and recommended the best bars for us to try.

The rooms were excellent and spotlessly clean.

The food on our half board stay was also excellent. The hot and cold breakfast buffet was great as were the 3 course evening meals.

The Managers (John Ryan and Maria Kelly) even allowed us to block the car park outside the hotel so we could take photos of the cars in front of the hotel on our last morning.

My sister's wedding took place in The Ardilaun Hotel last weekend and I am very impressed with the venue, service and quality provided. The food was amazing- by far the best meal I have had at a wedding. The service was efficient- the staff were all on the ball. The location was ideal for wedding photos as there are scenic areas dotted all over the hotel's premises and the function room was a perfect size for the wedding party. 10 out of 10 as far as I am concerned

As you know, we are 50 years in business this year. Since opening our doors in 1962 we have welcomed in excess of 3000 couples to the hotel on their wedding day - something we are very proud of.

Stayed there last weekend, room was clean and comfy, had one evening dinner, thought portions were a bit small, but food was good. Wedding reception on the saturday and it was very good, staff very friendly and helpful. Also it is a dog friendly hotel.

Room Tip: Get one on the top floor at the end of a corridor. Very peaceful and a good nights sleep.
