“Need better beds.”
Reviewed 6 November 2013

Stayed at this hotel end of October, 2013 and had room in "New Wing". Room was very clean with plenty of space. Bathroom had both bath and shower clean with good towels. There is dual heating via central heating radiator and also via a very efficient air conditioning cum heating system. The double bed was, however, not very comfortable. The mattress was worn and had lost its 'spring' leaving it flat and hard. Still have 'creak' in my neck. Bedclothes too should be upgraded to duvets for comfort and hygiene. The TV was small and old with just the 4 Irish channels available - not good for keeping kids entertained for even short periods. To get to our room one had to traverse a long narrow corridor (about 3 feet/900cm wide) in the old house part of the hotel - quiet a long walk and a little worrying if one had to leave quickly in an emergency. Lift in this area is small noisy and worn. There was an alternative to reach reception and dining room by going outside along covered walk (roof only) through garden but in Galway the rain comes sideways most times and its cold. Apart from these items of concern the hotel is in great location and its strong point are its staff - they are most helpful, efficient, friendly and work very hard. The public areas in reception, the bars and leisure centre are all excellent and make for a relaxing stay. Breakfast is average with poor selection of fruit. Dinner however is good, with a good menu, good wine list and excellent service in a very well appointed and pleasant dining room.

Room Tip: I believe there are superior rooms in the 'new wing' but didn't get to see them as they...

Lovely old style hotel. Plenty of comfortable seating area. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rooms clean. Soft towels in bathroom. Could update their tv in bedroom. Dinner in restaurant very disappointing. Portions small and food cold. We had to look for more vegetables to fill us up. Breakfast was poor. Orange juice un-drinkable. Porridge poor. Eggs over cooked. Dinner in the bar the second night was far better. Once again portions small. We had to order vegetables and potatoes to feel we had a dinner. But the food was hot and tasty. Joesph the dinning room manager really looked after us. Thank you Joesph. Overall we all agreed that we Will go back. Swimming pool very nice. A nice home from home.

We have lost count of the number of times we have stayed at this friendly, efficient, comfortable hotel. I have actually exhausted complimentary adjectives to describe the polite, courteous manner of ALL the staff we have encountered on our visits. From the reception desk, the restaurant, the housekeeping staff - these delightful people take customer care to the highest level. See you all in April! Thanks again Ardilaun!

We spent a 4 day break at the Ardilaun with our 5 year old son and twin toddlers. We really enjoyed it and that was in no small part to the excellent attention and service we received at the hotel. The staff were always thoughtful and friendly. We got an upgraded room without asking to accommodate two cots. The room was large and very comfortable. The atmosphere during the mid-term was lively. The receptionist Barbara was very helpful and we enjoyed chatting to her and her suggestions for day trips. The children's club in the morning was excellent - it was well run and very well supervised. The restaurant was equally accommodating when the kids were v active in the morning and too tired to eat. I also enjoyed the spa. The evening. If I was to make a suggestion to the hotel - it would be to value the warm welcome and service you provide - as this is what distinguishes the Ardilaun from other hotels.

Four of us spent midweek in the Hotel. It was a pleasant, enjoyable and good experience for all of us. All the staff we met were very efficient ,courteous and above all very friendly and they couldn't do enough for us. The receptionist even drew us a very detailed map to ensure we avoided roadworks when leaving the city. We loved the breakfasts, reading in the foyer and in particular, the leisure centre. We will turn again.

Enjoyed a midterm 3 day midterm break at this hotel with husband & 11 year old daughter. While the decor throughout is quite dated, everywhere is spotless as was our room. The staff were all pleasant and helpful, some especially so. Food was excellent as was the pool and leisure area. The Avalon spa was excellent also.

This is a lovely hotel that caters to numerous weddings. It has a lovely garden but beware, the gardens have lighting but they were not on at night and there was no lighting in the parking lot so it was VERY dark. The man managing the restaurant was extremely rude to one of the elderly ladies in our group (traveling with CIE tours) when she questioned whether or not she was getting what she had ordered. In fact, he pointed to a piece of paper and said is this you and then said isn't that what it says you ordered here. He then smirked when she said yes and walked away. That alone would ensure that I never chose this hotel to stay at but on top of this, we accidentally observed him giving one of his waitresses a "dressing down" that had her in tears. She was actually a very good waitress and had waited on our group very efficiently.

Room Tip: The older rooms are much quieter and spacious.
