“Disappointed”
Reviewed 16 February 2014

Stayed here for one night with husband and daughter for €195 for one room B&B and felt that this was poor value. On arrival at 1.30pm, reception staff were not friendly when informing us that we were 30 minutes too early for check in time! Later, at 6pm when we arrived in our room our luggage had not been brought up so we phoned reception, only to have to go downstairs a while later as it still hadn't been brought up. When it did arrive we were offered someone else's bag as well as our own. We were allocated a room next to the lift on a night when there was a wedding reception taking place in the hotel and were woken by rowdy guests between 2 and 4am. It's a pity that hotel staff don't use their initiative and allocate rooms away from the lifts to guests who are not part of wedding parties. No wifi available in the bedrooms although when queried, were told by reception that there was weak wifi reception available. One would expect wifi in bedrooms of 4 star hotels. Hotel slightly jaded with carpet rip in restaurant being taped by staff during breakfast. Also, tap in bathroom dripping and had to be turned 17 times to turn off. We had stayed here many years ago and were extremely disappointed on our return. For our next visit to Galway we would definitely prefer to try other 4 star hotels.

Room Tip: Away from lifts.

Dear Geraldine,
Thank you sincerely for choosing to stay here in the Galway Bay Hotel recently and thank you also for your valued feedback. I and indeed all on the team are terribly disappointed to learn that you have not experienced the true Galway Bay Hotel experience for which we are renowned for. I would like to assure you that this is most definitely not the normal standard of service which we strive to offer any guest at any time. I have reviewed this feedback with all on the team and collectively we will work to ensure that the issues you encountered are not issues with any future guests.

I have received over two hundred pieces of guest feedback over the course of the last week. This feedback was received by way of letter, e-mail, comment card, follow on calls to a random amount of recently departed guests and guest surveys with a random amount if in house
guests. All of this weekly feedback is uploaded on to a very comprehensive guest feedback log. As you can imagine, over time a large volume of feedback is uploaded on to this log. I would like to assure you that the overwhelming majority of this feedback is overwhelmingly positive. I merely mention this to outline that your experience is most certainly not the norm and the 'exception to the rule' here in the Galway Bay Hotel.

Thank you again and please feel free to drop me a line at dmurphy@galwaybayhotel.com as I would welcome the opportunity to liaise in person.
Warm regards, Dan Murphy

We stayed in the hotel for a wedding and really enjoyed our stay. The staff couldn't do enough for you and were very accommodating when it came to providing food alternatives as one of us has a dairy intolerance. We plan on returning to stay in Galway Bay hotel and I really look forward to it.

Well worth a visit, got a special on one of the booking sites €178.00 for 2 for 2 night b&b in February. Breakfast was lovely, great choice, bedroom was good size, views were fab, staff were friendly, pool was bit on the small size though. However the hotel was spotless and cosy warm for this time of year.

This hotel is rated as four star this is debatable, the pool and pool area not four star, there is no nice place to have a drink unless you use the foyer, which is the only four star area. The stools in bar are dirty. Chairs in sunroom are dirty. Rooms can be cold, had to ring reception to get heating turned on. Breakfast was three star. Rooms nice, if you get a sea view very nice. All in very disappointed.

Dear ‘mariatommy’,
Thank you most sincerely for choosing to stay here in the Galway Bay Hotel recently and thank you also for your valued feedback. Please feel free to drop me a line at dmurphy@galwaybayhotel.com as I am more than anxious to liaise with you personally.

Only last month Failte Ireland carried out their annual grading inspection. This is a stringent inspection whereby all areas of the hotel are inspected in great detail ensuring a consistently high standard throughout the hotel. All areas were inspected, including the quality of all food throughout the hotel for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the quality of the team in terms of service, friendliness and professionalism and the quality of the hotel itself. We received a 91% four star rating which is in fact in the top 5% of four star hotels in Ireland . We have also been awarded the IASI award for excellence in housekeeping standards throughout the hotel. This being achieved as we have a very structured approach to both daily and weekly cleaning schedules in all areas of the hotel.

As I mention I would welcome the opportunity to liaise with your good self in person at some stage in the future.
Kindest regards, Dan Murphy

I stayed here as part of a dinner/spa package for my Birthday. The staff are by far the most friendly I've experienced anywhere in the world, never mind Ireland! They really couldn't do enough for us, and were so chatty and welcoming.

Our room was lovely, maybe a tiny bit outdated ( we did notice that they are refurbishing some of the rooms) - but the beds were very comfortable and the room/bathroom were spotless.

We ate in the cafe and in The Lobster Pot Restaurant during our stay, and the food was fantastic - again the staff were friendly and attentive.

Would definitely recommend this hotel, and we will be back again ourselves!

Dear ‘noontalp’,
Thank you most sincerely for choosing to stay here in the Galway Bay Hotel for your birthday celebration recently and thank you also for your super feedback. I am delighted to see that you had such an enjoyable time whilst here.

Your positive feedback is most welcome and indeed extremely encouraging; I have passed this on to all on the team and collectively we pass on to you our heartfelt gratitude. Robert, our Executive Chef also wishes to pass on his personal gratitude as your comments regarding the quality of food you received are most complementary. I am also delighted that you mention the team being ‘the most friendly I have experienced anywhere in the world’ – this is most complementary and they really are a great team – of course they make my job so much easier!! You are quite correct – we are refurbishing all of our guest bedrooms. We commenced this in January and we hope to have this complete in the next couple of months.

Thank you once again and we look forward to hopefully welcoming you back again at some stage in the near future.
Best regards, Dan Murphy

All the team were really friendly, giving a great, warm feeling throughout the stay.... Almost a "family feel" going on. The function facilities are great, everything ran like clockwork. The weather was terrible but even that couldn't dampen the spirits. Much better watching the storms outside from inside the restaurant!

We did not stay at the hotel (but might in the future) but went to the Lobster Pot restaurant. The meal was 4 star quality as a very reasonable price - even the live lobster was very reasonable compared to similar in Dublin and other European cities.

I would highly recommend the Lobster Pot for a special meal in Galway as it will enhance your entire visit to the very nice town.
