Large hotel situated on the seafront overlooking Galway Bay. The hotel is further away from Galway town centre than we had been led to believe and reckon it is a good 30 minute walk. It appeared to be the sort of hotel that attracted coach parties and families.

We stayed for two nights on a B&B basis with dinner on the first night. We were sufficiently satisfied with dinner to eat in the second night as well rather that find somewhere in Galway. Breakfast was self-service with plenty of variety on offer including a pancake machine. We were happy with the breakfast on offer.

The hotel has a large car park and it is worth noting that, at the far end, there is access to an underground additional parking area. We were warmly welcomed by reception and to our surprise were allocated a sea view room on the first floor. The weather was very warm so we slept with the windows open but were undisturbed by passing traffic or any other noise The room met our requirements and was what one would expect from a 4 star hotel.

We found the staff to be efficient and friendly.

Room Tip: To one side of the hotel (the right if looking from the beach) there is a fairground with the inevit...

Visited the hotel On a bank holiday Saturday for bar food and were very impressed. The food was amazing and the service from Trevor Our barman was top class. The hotel was packed but we were made feel that nothing was too much trouble and we left as two very happy customers.

Myself & my husband recently had lunch at the Galway Bay last Saturday. We were greeted with a warm welcome & happy staff. The bar was busy with people but service was prompt & efficient. The new bar menu was great. On recommendation from Trevor, I ordered the chilli chicken which was delicious & tender. It was a great choice & I thanked Trevor for his help. My husband had the prawn scampi which was equally delicious. We will be back for more, thanks for a lovely meal.

We spent one night at this hotel and found it to be somewhat expensive, but good value. Our room was very nicely appointed and spacious. The view out over Galway Bay was a wonderful sight to wake up to. Thee dinner in the pub the previous night was average and the breakfast the following day was good. Above all, the staff in every department, in particular the delightful ladies at reception, who too the time to point out places to see and stay in the region. All in all we highly recommend the Galway Bay Hotel.

Room Tip: The front rooms while more expensive offer stunning views.

Stayed at Galway Bay for wedding hosted there. The hotel is very average and feels more like a retirement home than a nice hotel. That said, the wedding ambiance and food was much better than the hotel itself.

The hotel sits right across the street from the water so that's nice, but a walk into the city center will take 45 minutes (although nice views) or an expensive taxi ride.

The rooms have NO AC. We stayed in July during one of the hottest weeks in the summer and we couldn't sleep, even with the windows open. We had to go down to the hotel lobby to get any relief at 4am (when we couldn't sleep because it was too hot). We asked for a fan to help, but were put on a fan waiting list.

Wifi was out the WHOLE time we were there.

The food at the bar is awful and breakfast is meh. You would be better to go to a coffee shop down the street.

The staff is very nice, but doesn't really make up for everything else.
Carnival is next door and the noise from the rides are annoying.

Dear ‘KirstySW’,
Thank you for choosing to stay here in the Galway Bay Hotel recently and thank you also for your feedback. I am most pleased to see that you really enjoyed the wedding reception which you attended.

Naturally, I am most concerned to learn of the issue you encountered during your stay. I would like to extend to you a very heartfelt apology and I would like to assure you that this is definitely not the normal standard of product we strive to deliver to any guest of the hotel. Over the course of the last week I have received 266 comments from hotel guests or from recently past guests of the hotel. The overwhelming majority of this feedback has been hugely positive, particularly in relation to our location and proximity to Galway city and the quality of the food throughout the hotel – which is receiving excellent feedback consistently.

You are quite correct to mention that we do not have air conditioning in our bedrooms. We do however have manual air regulation which has been commented on favouably by hotel guests however on the night you stayed this was obviously an issue. We are a 10 euro taxi drive from the city centre. It normally takes 25 minutes to walk from the gate of the hotel to town and also we have a bus stop at the main gate. Throughout the summer we have the Galway Tourist Train leaving from the main entrance of the hotel at 10.30am each morning dropping hotel guests in the city centre and the hotel provides a complimentary activity voucher for this. This is a really novel way to take in the city and it is particularly popular for couples and families alike.

We are in the process of upgrading our complimentary WIFI throughout the hotel. This will be complete over the course of the next week. Maybe it was because of this that it was not in operation for you however on inspection of our daily check sheets I can see that the WIFI has been fully operational over the course of the last number of weeks.

I do not quite understand your comment regarding the hotel being like a retirement home. We are in operation for 15 years with a classical look and feel running throughout all areas of the hotel. This classical look and feel is commented on most favourably by guests of the hotel on a daily basis, particularly by our repeat and return guests. We have a very encouraging mix of families, younger and older couples along with conference guests and wedding guests at all times which makes for a very interesting mix at all times.

Thank you again and hopefully we will have the opportunity to welcome you back again at some stage in the future.
Kind regards, Dan Murphy

I was highly disappointed with this place. When we got to our room the toilet did not work. We called the front desk and they sent someone up to fix it. A little while later I tried to take a shower and there was no hot water. Had to call the front desk again and wait while they fixed the shower. There was a big hole in the carpet by the bed. When we went to eat at the bar it took forever to get a server. I ended up going to the bar and asking for menus and a server. A few minutes later a server came over and took our drink order and left again. It was over an hour from the time we arrived until we received our food.

I am most disappointed to see that you did not experience the true Galway Bay Hotel experience for which we are renowned for. I would really welcome the opportunity to liaise with you in person and should you wish to do so please feel free to drop me a line at dmurphy@galwaybayhotel.com

We stayed here for a wedding. The staff were so nice and helpful. The hotel itself is excellent. If you are lucky enough to get a room looking out on the sea which we did it is even better. The food at the wedding was excellent and the service was the best I've experienced in a long time. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask if you can have a sea view room
