The stain glass windows in this pretty cathedral were worth the look. We enjoyed the quiet elegance.

Quite simple a very pretty cathedral. It does seem very new in comparison to the others that we saw on our trip to Ireland and we were subsequentlly informed that it was indeed the youngest of Ireland's cathederals! The size and grandour of the place very much impressed my wife and i. There are many and varied stained glass windows, although not as big as ones we had seen on our trip. I must admit i found the layout very refreshing. I would highly recommend seeing this if you are lucky enough to be visiting Galway!!

The first thing you will notice will be the size of the cathedral, I had to walk some distance to take a photo. The second is the huge copper dome but inside is what makes the visit worthwhile. A centre altar sitting under the dome is made of local marble, look up into the dome....incredible. Around the walls are the largest Stations of the Cross I have seen....full size statues....white marble of course. A stain glass window incorporated into a wonderful pipe organ is just another wonderful feature.
