Flannery's Hotel Galway

My friend and I spent last weekend in Galway and were lucky to have booked into Flannery's Hotel. From the moment we arrived it was 5 star service all the way. Due to the length of our stay ( 3 nights } we were upgraded to a suite, as it was my friend's birthday a complementary bottle of wine with a card from all the staff was left in our room, the food was excellent, the rooms clean and comfortable and the service first class. With Eyre square and all the city has to offer a short bus ride away Flannery's makes an excellent choice for anyone visiting Galway, They have a motto outside the Hotel which reads " arrive as guests, leave as friends " we intend to remain best friends with this Hotel. I would highly recommend this Hotel,

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the staff could not have been nicer. It is just a short bus ride to Galway which we caught right out front. Great price for a great stay.

Flannerys hotel is perfect for a budget getaway, family holiday (or as I had planned: a shopping weekend!)

The staff were very helpful, attentive and friendly.

The room was very clean and comfortable. Even though there were a number of tour
groups and families it was still quiet at night time.

The bathroom was lovely but needed one more large bath towel (couple sharing). The shower was amazing - high pressure and hot water!

Breakfast was a buffet and was very nice - juices, tea/coffee, cereals, hot breakfast and pastries.

They even catered to a coeliac (gluten free) member of our party.

There were no leisure or spa facilities on sight, but the restaurant was nice and served lovely food in the bar late into the evening. Free wi-fi on site and fast enough speeds.

Location wise, it is a 5 minute drive to the city with ample parking and a cinema nearby.

Walking would take about 40 minutes along a lovely river walk.

So - great for stays similar to what I suggested (Family, budget, shopping) :)

We have stayed at Flannerys twice before. To be honest we only went back this year because we couldn't find an alternative with car parking that matched our dates.

The hotel itself is OK but as I have commented previously some of the staff need some training in customer handling! We stayed 3 nights. Night 1 was fine and actually had some real traditional Irish music in the bar rather than their usual fare. This is definitely an improvement on previous visits and it was clear everyone enjoyed it.

Then things went downhill. My daughters boyfried was trapped in their bathroom the following morning (day 2) because the door jammed. A bit of brute force and we got him out but had he been in the room alone I dread to think given he suffers from claustrophobia what would have happened. we reported it - door was not fixed.

Then that night at 0:38 precisiely the fire alarm went off. It went off quickly so we assumed it was a false alarm and went back to bed. 5 minutes later there was a loud knock at our door with the night porter accusing us of smoking in the room. We hadn't been and I asked him to come in and check. he was extremely rude.

Night 3 same thing happened at exactly the same time and again we got a knock tho this time it was a different night porter who was charming and said he'd sort it out with the manager. When I went to pay the bill the next day the manager was very apologetic and knocked the price of a meal we'd had in the bar off our bill. There was a fault in the sensor above our room door which was triggering the alarm.

Two disturbed nights of sleep really wasn't good as we had a long drive ahead. On the positive I can say for definite their fire alarm works!

Breakfast is OK but it seems to cause a bit of a problem getting toast if you don;t want tea or coffee!

I can say no more than it's OK but would recommend looking elsewhere first.
