“Really disappointing”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 November 2013

Bought a one night stay with dinner here through living social deals. It was ment to be a romantic stay for me and my partner but it ended up being one not great thing after another, Firstly, very few of the photos of the place actually existed when we arrived. We got allocated a really horrible room at the ground floor woth 2 locked doors leading in to the rooms next door and a locked door leading out to a grassed area and a wall.. So no way of fresh air. I asked for a change and we got told we could only have a room with wiew of the back, even though it seemed like the hotel was empty! The room was cold, no shampoo or the like, no heating so had to ask for a portable heater. The dinner service was terrible! We bought a nice bottle of wine and the waiter just plonked it on our table, came back few min later with two glasses and left us to do the opening of it.. The dinner was really tasteless and sauses came in little paper tubs and plastic packages. The next day we realised we didnt have any hot water in our bathroom and when we arrived at the pool area it was closed for maintainence.. Im only in my early 30 s and i dont expect much, but i feel its not ok when you come home more tired and stressed out then before you left..

Stayed in this hotel for two nights with my wife and two kids and mother in law. Had booked two rooms. Both rooms were spacious and are ideal for families. We had a large bedroom with separate living area and kitchen. With two kids it gives you that added space you would not get in a normal hotel room.

Food was excellent both for breakfast and dinner. Also ordered room service which was prompt and tasty.

The bar area was quite large and spacious and good and lively without been too noisy.

I used the pool with my daughter and was impressed by the pool as it caters for both young and old and is clean. Gym also available to guests.

The Connacht is a great hotel in an ideal location and well worth a visit. Staff are friendly and especial word of thanks to Sarah Comer one of the hotel managers there.

We stayed here for a weekend and found the hotel more than adequate. Our rooms were well appointed and large but had no outlook if you were there during the day. The breakfast was a 'help yourself' buffet with a good choice. The public areas were well looked after. The downside is that it is a fair walk into Galway itself although there is a bus. Unfortunately the bus to Shannon airport doesn't stop there so you end up going in to Galway and then finding a bus to go back to the hotel.

We stayed here for two nights whilst attending a family event. Rooms were large and comfortable, with all anticipated facilities: tea, coffee making; iron and board; trouser press; hair dryer; lockable safe. Restaurants and bars welcoming and food good. Will definitely stay again.

I stayed at the Connacht for 4 nights this November. The room was clean and modern. Even large by European standards. The staff was also friendly and helpful. The location is good but there isn't much to walk to. There is a large pool which made the kids happy. I would recommend it as a well run, clean and relatively inexpensive hotel.
The food however, left a lot to be desired. The breakfast was appalling. If it hadn't been included in my room rate I'd have been irate. The prices they charge for microwaved eggs and inedible irish breakfast are insane.
There are a few ok dishes on the Bar Solo menu. People were happy with the stir fry but the Lamb Shank was bland and you should avoid the hamburgers like the plague.
The bar staff at Bar Solo is wonderful. Definitely made our experience worthwhile.

Room Tip: Wing A rooms were nicest and those facing into the other buildings were the warmest. The heating is...

Stayed in this hotel for a night and would never stay again. We had stayed in the hotel before it changed name/ownership and quite enjoyed it, so we booked again. The room we were given was on the very far side of the hotel and very confusing to get to: up some stairs and across a lobby, more stairs etc. When we got to the room it was FILTHY, it obviously hadn't been cleaned. The toilet was dirty and there was a used razor still in the shower. There was dust and crumbs on the tables and the floor hadn't been hoovered either. We asked for another room and were given one which had been cleaned but the carpets were very stained. The beds and facilities were just ok, although we didn't get any sleep because of other guests on our floor shouting until 4:30am in the hallways. Hotel food was just ok too.The staff were good, but it wouldn't make up for the disaster of a night there!
