I stayed at the travel lodge in galway with a friend as we were at a seminar at the university. Room very basic, booked twin but only double with pull out sofa. Didn't get any sleep because of drunks banging on the door and running shouting up and down the corridor. There was no information in the room on how to ring reception, tried 0 but no answer.
The following morning, complained, but all i was told was 'well no one complained during the night'.... how when there was no answer??? Would never stay there again, was not cheap, much better hotels in the area for same or even less money.

Hi there,

Thank you for talking the time to write your review about our hotel.

I do apologise for the disturbance within the hotel on th night you stayed with us.
I know there is nothing worse than not getting a good nights sleep.

I'm sorry our staff did not take action on your compaint . Our customer service is generally regarded as one of the hotels great strenghts, so your comment disappoints me greatly.

I have sent you comments to the general manager. He is checking all rooms to ensure the phone instructions are displayed.

Again please accept my apologies.

Kind Regards,
Lisa

Looking for a dog friendly budget hotel in Galway, Ireland - then look no further. I stayed here on potentially the noisiest night of the year - Halloween - but there was hardly any noise! Of course the travel lodge concept is basic but its good for the budget and you know exactly what you are getting... clean rooms, plenty of towels and hot water, TV, comfy bed and the rooms sleeps 4! All for around 60 euro a night...it costs 10 euro for a dog - the dog is not allowed in the small dining room - breakfast is basic and available at an additional charge - full Irish or continental depending on how hungry you are! Best of the hotel is only minutes by car from the city centre - a good 10 minute walk and is on a main roundabout if you are travellin in the west of ireland! PS avoid the rush hour if you ar in a car! And at weekends the car park can be tight.

Stayed here for around 90 EURO per night in September 2008, obtaining the best rate through lastminute.com.

In my experience, Travelodge can be a bit hit-or-miss, and this one was pretty good, but with some mainly minor problems. Room was large and clean and for me that is probably the main issue. The receptionist (manager?) is very friendly but the others are not overly enthusiastic. Location is 15minutes from the centre.

You also get a small portable TV to watch with a few channels, and internet is on a paid-for basis. No telephone facilities were available during my stay as they had "run out" of calling cards.

Soundproofing is poor, and so you will hear everyone coming back at night. Also, if like me you are facing the road, you will have the traffic to keep you company (there is a brief hiatus between 3am and 6am though). Breakfast is a basic affair, so don't expect much more than a cereal and some weak coffee.

Also, although the place is ostensibly non-smoking, clearly this is not strictly enforced as there was noticeable smell of smoke throughout the hotel. The net curtain on my room window had also been burnt by a few cigarettes in its time.

We arrived in Galway at about 5.30pm on a Wednesday and the traffic was apalling! We had intended to drive around and find a nice B&B but that plan was foiled due to the traffic and we spotted the Travelodge as we were trying to escape the jam so decided we might as well stay there. It wasn't bad value for money given that we hadn't booked in advance and the room was typical Travelodge; clean and tidy with the essentials for a pleasant stay.
We thought parking was going to be a nightmare when we first arrived but soon discovered a large car park to the rear of the hotel which could only be accessed by keypad or with a Travelodge room keycard so it was more secure than the front car park.
We decided to walk into the city rather than risk the traffic again but when we got to reception to ask directions there was no one there and we got no response when we rang the bell either; we decided to go it alone.
We found the centre without too much problem as it was just a case of turning left out of the hotel and keeping going for about a mile.
I doubt we will return to Galway as we were a little disappointed with the city but if we did then we would have no problem with staying here again.

I stayed here in July. Rooms were very adequate. The cost of staying was very reasonable. The receptionist was also very helpful as he brought different items that I required to my room.

I stayed at the Travel Lodge for 5 nights. The room was tiday, and basic with no frills. Great for the traveller that doesn't spend much time in the room. The Hotel staff were helpful and friendly. The location is out of town but I enjoyed the walk each day - approx 15 minute's.
