On a recent trip to Galway we returned from a day out in Connemara returning to our hotel on Eyre Square (not the Skeffington). We were so hungry so decided to go straight out for a meal and literally fell into this hotel, looked at the menu and ordered 2 x steak sandwiches. I am sorry to say that the quality of the food was not good. I felt it was like the scrapings from the pan put between two large pieces of white roll and served with not too delicious chips.

I was so disappointed with the mains that I ordered a dessert and choose banoffi pie. The base was hard, stale, and not up to standard.

All in all a poor choice.

Dear Mollie North East,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on Trip advisor about your recent visit to The Skeff Bar & Kitchen. I was saddened to read that you did not have an enjoyable experience with us and I would like to assure you that this is not the norm within our business. I would appreciate if you could contact our restaurant manager Ashling Dudley at ashlingdudley@gmail.com so she could get some more information from you regarding your experience as to get to the root of the problem. We welcome all feedback within The Skeff Bar & Kitchen as we feel this is the only way we can improve our business which we constantly try to do.

My apologies again and I hope you will give us a try again in the future.

Warm wishes,
Lisa Nee

I had an extraordinary experience with the Skeffington Arms Hotel. After an accident right outside the hotel the employees were truly considerate, helpful and took care of me very kindly. I appreciate that. Thank you very much, ladies and gentlemen! Michaela

This hotel is excellent by its location ! Very clean and the staff was great ! We had big room facing the Square and we were right above the bar. The noise did not bother us as we knew this before booking the room.

Bed was comfortable, bathroom was superb.I would totally book it again !

Room Tip: Make a special request !

We stayed at The Skeff in April 2013, for our 30th birthdays. Galway is such a young vibrant city with lots of shops and serious nightlife, and The Skeff is right in the middle of it. If you're looking for a quiet place, this is not the place for you. But it was perfect for us! The shops, clubs and bars were behind the hotel and Eyre Square is in the front of it. We were there for 2 nights and went to lots of bars (King's Head was our favorite) and the Karma club that's attached to the Skeff. The club was REALLY dressy and posh, which I loved. The room we had was on the top floor and overlooked Eyre Square. It wasn't too small, and had a nice bathroom. We took the "free" tour of Galway with one of the tour guides - which it IS free, but they do ask for tips (which we would've given regardless). Overall, we had an excellent stay, all the people were friendly and even let us borrow a converter.

Room Tip: Definitely go for a room on the top floor!

We stayed for 3 nights and were a little worried about some past reviews, however our experience was brilliant... Sad to leave and would definitely stay again. Our group had 2 rooms, one at the front of the hotel and one at the "side". As mentioned in past reviews , the front one has some noise from the downstairs pub especially on the weekend, but the side room was super quiet and with great aircon. Clean, modern and serviced daily. The front room was really spacious, kingsize bed and nice views of the square. Side rooms are much (much) smaller but quiet. The reception staff are an amazing team, could not have possibly been any nicer or more helpful!! Many thanks to them all, ( must also include Vortec, the night porter in here too) We loved the location, it suited us perfectly to be right in the middle of the action. Thought the parking deal was great too ! (They have an arrangement with a close multilevel car park.....short walk away.... We were glad to park up and get out of the vehicle for 3 days) Great value all round!

The Skeffington Arms is a small and historic hotel right on the main square in Galway. The location is great, the staff very nice. Our room was small, and a bit shabby, with torn window curtains. The bedsheets weren't fitted, so they just barely covered mattress. The bathroom however was amazingly updated and sleek and our friends' room across the hall seemed larger, more comfortable, and not shabby seeming at all. Breakfast was glorious! Served in the awe inspiring bar/restaurant that is part of the hotel, filled with stained glass and dark wood. The food was delicious.

This hotel has great rooms and very friendly service. They were an hour late cleaning our room after check-in which was annoying but okay since our room was very nice. The bar had a great band. Unfortunately, there is also a nightclub right behind the rooms. The noise kept us up most the night. So if you're planning to be out late, stay here. But if you plan to go to bed before midnight, stay somewhere else.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review on Trip Advisor. Here at the Skeffington Arms Hotel we strive to offer a warm, welcoming environment for all our guests and this something which has been commented on over and over by other reviewers. So thank you for taking to time to let other reviews know we truly appreciate this.

I was disappointed to see that you found our hotel to be loud. It is a busy city and its coming to tourist season so there is a few more festival happening in the City. When making a booking and also again on check in we inform every one that we are city centre and we do have a pub next door. We have live Irish music from Monday to Friday and a Dj on weekends. Apologies on the late check in if past guest are late checking out it we it puts check in time back a little but accommodation do try the best to get rooms ready as quick as possible.

I do hope we get the chance to welcome you back to The Skeffington Arms Hotel in the near future.

Warm regards,

Lisa Nee
