“Amazing!”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

From the outside this hotel is rather underwhelming, but when you go in it is very different! The lounges in the ground floor are all totally different themes and range from classic tea room to trendy wine bars. Our suite was great, very big and the bathroom was amazing with a beautiful stand alone bath. The spa pool area is totally amazing. Loved the hotel.

Large rooms, especially by European standards. Very modern & great decor! Easy to miss when driving, as it's adjacent to a small shopping strip and not well publicized. A bit of a walk to the main shopping area, but only a 5-10e taxi ride & they are on the scene immediately when called up by the concierge. Highly recommend the G Connector restaurant in the shopping center for breakfast. Great prices & excellent fresh food, with breakfast served all day. The burger place in the shopping center is so-so. Not much else in the immediate area. However, highly recommend the hotel for great quality hotel, peaceful sleeping @ comfy beds!

Right now I'm sitting on a bed in Dublin's newest hip hotel, The Marker. I'm enjoying a weekend getaway with my wife who has risen to the challenge of spending what we earn faster than we can earn it. She's very good at it. We have just finished breakfast and had been comparing this ultra modern hotel with the more grand boutique style of our last weekend break at the G Hotel. It had been jogging my memory of that stay , so while Claire gets to doing all those things that ladies do before heading out for the day ( a lot of looking in the mirror while fixing , hair , face and outfits) i thought i would get some thoughts on the G Hotel down.

We booked our stay in February through Secret Escapes. It was a weekend break over a Friday and Saturday. The G (as it is commonly referred to by itself) is about 1 mile outside Galway town on a busy junction. It has a cinema beside it and a corner shop and bar across the road. It's not where i expected Galway's "best" hotel to be. Truth be told, it's a very underwhelming site more suited to an Ibis hotel. It's not picturesque , nor convenient to anything really. We parked round the car in a large rear car park.

The interior is both luxurious, impressive and cleverly quirky in some bits. The reception leads onto the Bar / Cocktail lounge which had 3 different rooms each which are very different. One has a large open fire , is extremely grand with cream walls , carpets and sofas and during our stay , a chap was crooning out some Sinatra in the evenings. Walk though to the next section and it's all bright pinks and blacks in a funky and bright room. These sharp and interesting contrasts continue throughout the hotel and are very pleasing. The Cocktail bar itself serves fantastic cocktails but be sure you get down early. Every seat was taken when we visited on Friday night but the staff were excellent giving priority to guests and managed to sort a table out for us. We only had a short time in the bar before a restaurant reservation but we made a point of arriving early the nest evening to enjoy lots more cocktails. This was one of the highlights of our trip.

We had a standard room which was huge , complete with a corner sofa and very big and soft bed. It's without doubt the most comfortable bed i have slept in and probably one of the biggest too. We had an early first night after a meal and chose a DVD from the Hotel and were very happy finishing off a cocktail or 2 and watching Juno.

Breakfasts are excellent, served in an ultra funky room and although there are a lot of buffet options you can also order a freshly cooked option from the menu. It's a really good breakfast with lots of choice too.

The G is an excellent hotel and a full on 5 Star experience with something a little different to offer over a lot of other more generic hotels. A positive note goes out to the attentive staff who noticed me checking for our taxi which had not arrived. A helpful chap came over asking if everything was okay ,he then re-booked our taxi for us and called our restaurant booking to let them know we would be late. The staff really cannot do enough for you here and it's probably the best hotel we have stayed in.

Room Tip: I believe you can upgrade to a room with a fireplace that they will light for you every day.. We did...

Just back from a 2 night stay in the G with my husband. We had stayed previously about a year ago so this was a return visit to celebrate an anniversary. It's a beautiful hotel with really different, but impressive decor. Staff in all areas of the hotel were extremely friendly and eager to please. Our anniversary was acknowledged in our room with a card and chocolates which was a lovely touch and much appreciated.

We had treatments in the spa which were divine and used the thermal suite- I understand there is a charge of €10 to use this if not having a treatment which is probably a little unfair to residents. Lovely area though and very relaxing. We booked two 55 mins treatments, however my treatment was about 10 mins shorter than my husbands! We also ate in the the restaurant which was lovely with 4 varying price menus to suit all budgets. Food was delicious. Breakfast each morning was also very good- I've stayed in many other hotels that offer greater choice, but that said there was a good selection and the quality very good.

I requested a lake view room but was informed that this was only available as a higher room category and thus would involve additional charges. (During our previous stay this request was granted without question or mention of upgrade!). Our other option within the category I had booked was a terrace or a garden view. We opted for the garden view which was a bit if a stretch of the imagination as the "garden" was a few shrubs outside our window!! In that sense the location of the hotel does let it down a little as it backs a shopping centre car park and many of the rooms overlook this. It's also a good 20 min walk to the city centre. That said the room decor is beautiful, beds extremely comfy and lovely big pillows. Definitely a very luxurious feel to the room albeit a bit smaller compared to other 5 star hotels. The room I had stayed in previously was larger with a much better view, and for the price I would expect to have that.

All in all it was a very enjoyable stay. Galway is a great city, and our stay at the G was very pleasant. I'd be happy to recommend this hotel. I would stay again should I come across a good deal, but would be tempted to stay a little more central next time

Dear Guest,
Thank you for sharing some feedback from your recent stay at the g. It was great to read that you have become a return guest of the hotel. Congratulations on your anniversary!
We will share your kind feedback with the Spa and Restaurant. The use of the Thermal Suite does incur a charge of €10.00 per person per visit if used as a standalone treatment and numbers are kept to a minimum at anyone time to ensure those using this facility enjoy the atmosphere of relaxation and privacy.
The g is a city hotel and because of this we are limited in relation to views. We are fortunate enough that half of our bedrooms boast stunning views of Lough Atalia. These are upgraded rooms and they do command a premium for their views but also for the extra space and amenities they boast.
We do hope that you will stay with us the next time you are visiting Galway.
Kind Regards,
The g Hotel Management Team

What a beautiful hotel - it felt like being on a film set! The Philip Treacy designs are exquisite. The lounges on the ground floor offer such relaxing settings to enjoy cocktails or food. The dining room was a joy to sit in and watch the surrounding activities. Breakfast menu was varied and delicious. The staff in all areas of the hotel were friendly and helpful. The quietest room I've ever stayed in. Very special place.

The interior of the G was fantastic & I loved walking through the different rooms. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The staff at the desk were welcoming and couldn't have been more helpful & the breakfast was delicious and varied.

I feel like I might be nit picking a bit but we had asked for champagne in our room when we booked that day as we had just got engaged. The outside of the bucket the champagne was in was filthy and there were wine glasses instead of champagne glasses with it. This was not a massive issue obviously, but didn't feel it was five star attention to detail either!

What did bother me was that we arrived late in the evening and wanted to eat in the city before restaurants started serving so we ordered a taxi with reception, had a quick sip of champagne & packed the bottle back with ice & covered it for when we got back. When we did return, the bottle was out on the table and had maybe two inches left at the bottom. I had left an ipad and my wallet in the room & these were untouched so found this pretty bizarre, and needless to say, dead bolted the door before going to sleep!

Overall we had a nice experience, but for the price paid I just would have expected a little more and was a bit unsettled by our thirsty visitor.

Dear Guest,
We were so pleased to read how much you enjoyed the unique decor and design of the hotel. Our team were delighted to have been considered helpful and welcoming.
Please accept our sincere apologies that the wrong type of glasses were delivered with your Champagne and that the ice bucket was not up to the normal standard of the hotel. We will be sharing your feedback with our Food & Beverage Manager, David, for him to look into further.
In relation to the Champagne being moved. We provide a turndown service every evening between 6pm and 10pm. Our Accommodation team may have moved the Champagne to facilitate cleaning but we can assure you that nothing would have been consumed by any member of our team.
Thank you for your feedback. We hope that we can welcome you back again soon to experience the true meaning of a stay at the g.
Kind Regards,

Stayed here for two nights midweek with my husband. Hotel was quiet enough being midweek but this didn't bother us. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel, preferring to sample some of the many eateries in the city. The room was lovely, we stayed in a superior king room and had separate bath and shower I. The bathroom and a very large bed. The bed and linen were so comfortable, and the large pillows were a wonderful addition. The room was large and spacious with a great air con unit and a view of the bay across the road. I believe some rooms look out on the industrial centre behind the hotel (there is a cinema, Woodies, Homestore and more and a Rockin Joes etc behind the hotel) which the hotel shares parking with.parking is free and doesn't require validation. I used the gym during my stay. It is quite small and has 2 cross trainers, a couple of treadmills, a bike, one rack of weights up to 10kg and one bench and a seated leg curl and leg extension machine, and a chest press and lat pull down machine. The lounges are lovely to sit in with waiter service for drinks and food and the breakfast was delicious both mornings served in the restaurant. I particularly liked that my poached eggs were cooked to perfection both mornings and we were made to feel very welcome and at home and asked if we wanted to order anything else off the menu. The staff and decor or this hotel do warrant 5 star rating in my eyes. The only let down was that there was no pool and you had to pay a surplus to use the thermal suite in the spa which I found very strange as this is usually complimentary. It was a good 20 minute walk into the city so we drive in but parking for the day was almost 20 euro so that's something to bear in mind. All in all a lovely enjoyable stay, and we would return if in Galway again.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for sharing some feedback from your recent stay at the g on TripAdvisor. Our bedrooms and bathrooms receive constant praise and we were so pleased that you enjoyed the room you were allocated. Our standard bedrooms do not boast the stunning views that your room benefited from.
Our breakfast team were so pleased to read that your breakfast was cooked to perfection and that you found time to enjoy our Signature Lounges. Our thermal suite does command a supplement of €10 per person per visit. The number of guests in this facility is kept to a minimum to ensure an atmosphere of privacy and relaxation. Thank you for your review. We appreciate your feedback and we hope that you will stay with us the next time you are visiting Galway.
