“Good location, great staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2012

We had a good time at the Western, although we never found a spot in the entire hotel where the wifi really worked.... We had a nice room that was very clean, well furnished, comfy beds with lots of pillows. We knew there was a bridal party in the hotel and other groups, but noise was not an issue except for a compressor on the other side of the wall from my bed that made a distant foghorn sound. I used earplugs to block it. (I always travel with earplugs)
We ate in the dining room twice for dinner as well as breakfast and thought both the food and the staff were great. Very convenient to the bus station and tourist office for day tours and there was shopping nearby for little necessities and such.

If they can resolve the wifi issue I'd recommend them without hesitation.

Although we had to drive around for a few minutes before we found the entry to the carpark (some better signage might help this) we were really pleased with this hotel.

We booked a room for two adults, but were given an enormous room with three beds, enough to accommodate a small army! The bathroom was clean and the room was comfortable. We were too tired to go out for dinner, so we ate in the hotel’s restaurant. My husband ordered the fish and chips and found it to be the nicest fish he had anywhere in the UK/Ireland! I ordered the chicken and found it to be rubbery, but edible. Breakfast was good, with prompt service of our hot meals, and a good range at the buffet. We would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Galway, and would stay here again.

Our son and his wife and my husband and I stayed here 3 nights while visiting the city and nearby sites including Aran Islands and Cliffs of Moher. It was very convenient to walk to buses and trains and to the City Center. Friendly locals frequent its beautiful bar which features acoustic music every night, both traditional and contemporary original, not just cover stuff.
The rooms and bathrooms were clean, though pretty worn out. This hotel has a great clerk, Karina, at the front who deserves praise for her welcoming nature, knowledge of the city and eagerness to help visitors new to Ireland.

Room Tip: This hotel does book hen and bachelor parties, so I'd suggest avoiding it on the weekends--and e...

I stayed in this hotel with family and a visitor from Canada on St Patrick's weekend. We got a good deal. The hotel is clean and the staff were friendly and very helpful. It is more like a large guest house/inn so there is a more personal vibe to it. our room wasn't very big but it was perfect for our needs. the bathroom was quite spacious. The restaurant is lovely and they offer dinner deals for a great price. There was plenty to choose from on the menu and the food was tasty.Breakfast was excellent. Lots of fresh fruit and again an abundance of choice including a full Irish or pancakes. The hotel is about 40 metres from Eyre Square so it is very central. the bar is comfortable and has a nice relaxed atmosphere. I would go back.

Room Tip: we asked for a bathroom with a bath and the bathroom was a good size.

These apartments are part of The Western in Galway. We booked 2 apartments for our stay in April. They were spotless and beautifully decorated. We were right off the main square, the location was great. For the price these accomodations could not be beat! Because they are apartments they do not have the same cleaning services as the hotel but they are fully functional apartments. I booked through booking.com and got a very good rate. The photos on the website are exactly how the apartments look.

There was a small pub, I believe the Merry Fiddler right across the street. They have great Irish Coffee and wonderful live music. Very enjoyable!

Room Tip: Apartment 7 has a beautiful terrace but fills up quickly.

We had booked two rooms for two nights. On the first night it was difficult to sleep, though we were at second floor, because there was a party in the tavern. We complained and found the Manager of the hotel really keen on listening and finding a positive solution, given there would be another party on the second night as well. She placed us in a very quiet apartment across the street. Great reaction, very much appreciated.
