This hotel is effectively in downtown Galway, just a few hundred meters above Eyre Square. We had a triple room for myself and three kids. It worked perfectly. The staff are very friendly, great breakfast, a lovely bar and underground parking. Phone in advance to get directions to the car park and ask them to buzz you in. They might need make and color of the car. There is an elevator from the car park to the hotel, perfect to counter any prevailing mist in the weather. They have a restaurant for evening food, but I didn't use it. Do note that this is a an old building, probably over 100 years old, and not a modern purpose built hotel. And of course this is the way it should be in a city as seeped in tradition as Galway. So reception, the stairs and the corridors are all kind of weirdly co located, but fully functional. We had an inner room so there was no view, but you don't want to hang out in your bedroom. There are far better hangout places around, including sitting in the surround window of the bar watching Galway pass by. Price is affordable, but you are paying somewhat for the location. Galway is such a walkable city it is worth it.

Seven of us stayed in apartments 3 and 4 which had a shared decking area overlooking Eyre Square. Very spacious and clean with free parking in the basement below. We requested some items from reception (tea towels, extra bedside lamps, door stops) and they were delivered to us within the hour. Great location, close to Shop Street and Eyre Square. Would stay here again.

Room Tip: Apartment 3 and 4 have a shared decking area and each overlook Prospect Road and some of Eyre Square...

Good hotel in Galway with a great location a short walking distance to the main area. Parking is underground and limited, so you have to leave your key with them so they can move the car around. I was a little worried with our rented car, but all was fine. There were two adults, 2 teenagers in a family room with a double and two single beds. We had enough room and the room was fine. Our room didn't face the main street, and noise was not a problem at night with the windows open. WiFi was free, but the signal was very weak in our room. Our deal included breakfast, which was very good and served quickly and hot.

The Western is a great location for anyone visiting Galway. We were able to easily walk from the train station to the hotel with our luggage. The hotel staff was pleasant and helpful and gave us excellent advice on area tours. We ate dinner both nights in the adjoining pub where the service was excellent and the atmosphere was friendly, welcoming, and relaxing. The village shopping/dining areas where steps way from our hotel. Any runners may also enjoy a morning run that takes you through village and along the quay wall.

There are a lot of positives about staying here - great location within walking distance of the city centre, friendly staff, nice breakfast with lots of choices, and restaurant/pub on site. We thought our accommodation was just ok though. We had a 2 bedroom apartment that was not a part of the hotel but located just in front of the parking garage. While it was well equipped with a kitchen and washing machine, everything was a bit tired and needed some updating. The beds were extremely firm, which is pretty common it seems in Europe but these felt extra hard to me. Also, being right next to the garage meant we had a pretty lousy view from our windows. For the price we paid we expected a little more. I guess we should have requested the apartments others have reviewed that sound quite nice.

I booked a twin room to celebrate my Mum´s 60th aniversary and when we arrived the receptionist really friendly offered us an upgrade in one of the apartments across the road 1 minute walking from the reception, When we saw the apartment it was as we have won the lotto, we were jumping from one room to the other and taking pictures everywhere to show our friends and family the lovely 2 bedroom apartment with two bathroom, a huge living-kitcthen area with enormous panel windows that faced to one of the cornerd of Eyre Square. On top of that we have direct access to a lovely roof terrace that we thought it was all for us becasue it was really nice and spacious to have a family BBQ but it ended up that it was the commun terrace for all the apartments in our floor. However it was perfect to have straight access from one of the rooms. I will recommend you if you go Galway to book the Apartment 7 in the Western Hotel as it´s the best of the lot. Enjoy your stay.
