“room for improvement”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

The positives were that the room was large, clean and comfortable. Downside was that the walls were thin enough, or guests in adjacent rooms loud enough, to prevent sleep for the first of a two night stay.
There was also noise emanating from some kind of generator in the back yard.
Porter totally unhelpful; he acknowledged that there was noise, but claimed he could do nothing about it; this was very different from my experiences in other establishments, where staff have been happy to attempt to allay any noise, offering a room change, if necessary.
Porter finally spoke to the gaggle of girls who were making the noise, but did it in such a way that they were hostile and rude at breakfast the next morning, resulting in an uncomfortable atmosphere.
Most hotels implement a policy of guests acting with reasonable consideration during their stay, but not this one.

Customer service hit and miss; one receptionist was friendly and polite, the other unsmiling and unwilling to help; as another reviewer has noted, everything was too much trouble for her.

Location central, although a taxi cost 7 euro to the nearby train station.

Bar ok; staff far better than in hotel itself.

Given the handy location and the good sized rooms, this could be a much better hotel if staff training and customer service were made priorities.

Room Tip: Seems be to somewhere where loud youngsters stay as a base to go drinking and then return in the ear...

We arrived on a girls wknd on Saturday and informed that we could upgrade for free from a double room to an apartment - great move.. The apartment was gorgeous and just across street from hotel. Had one twin room and a double ensuite room. It was 1st class. We ate breakfast in hotel which was lovely. The hotel in very convenient for a city break stay. Just two min walk to eyres square so no taxi needed. The car park is bit small but you can leave your keys at reception and they organise parking for u. Was great for us as we weren't going to be moving the car until Monday. We will definitely return here again and would use the apartment again - very modern and stylish!!

Room Tip: Ask for an apartment if u are staying the weekend. We had apart 4 on 3rd floor which was lovely

Had dinner with a friend in the restaurant of this hotel. We both had steak cooked medium rare which was exactly to our liking accompanied with nicely presented side dish of vegetables & chunky chips. Highly recomended

Decided to stay in this hotel as we were attending a funeral the next day and the afters was in this hotel so it was handy..

The receptionists are not helpful at all, everything was trouble we needed help with booking a bus and asked reception could she look it up online or call she told us the bus station is only a 5 minute walk away, while the computer was sitting in front of her and phone it's not hard to look something up!!We didn't know Galway and her brother had just died!! We had to return for more help and a different girl was on reception she did help us but with an attitude!!!

We wanted to stay another night and they only had a triple room available, we needed a double she wouldn't come down on the price of €140 for 2 people is ridiculous not even to drop in by €20 even though lots of money was spent in the bar and on all the food...

I work as a receptionist in Dublin in Temple bar when people have things booked in the bar we always give a discount..If we only have a triple room available we would sell at double rate, it's better to sell the room and get a good reputation so people will return instead of not selling it and giving yourself a bad name!!

If it was the hotel I work in no way would anyone be aloud to behave in this manner or not help anyone they should be ashamed it's not hard to go onto a computer...

The restaurant staff and bar staff were very friendly and helpful.. And the night porter was helpful also..

It's a shame about the receptionists as I go to Galway alot to my family and would of stayed again.. I will NOT be returning..

Dear Guest,

First we would like to thank you for your feedback
We are sorry to hear that your experience could have been nicer if not for the behaviour of our colleagues at the Front Desk. We want to assure you that this is very unusual as our Receptionists are usually praised for their friendliness and helpfulness. We hope that you will accept our apologies and that you would stay with us during your next trip to Galway.

Regards

If you can't afford to be on the beach at Salthill the Western has a good downtown location and a couple of nice suites. If there are 4 or more of you the suites have all the amenities (kitchen, washer-dryer, dishwasher etc. They also have 2 decent bedrooms and a large living room. Fair pub at he Hotel and many others nearby.
