I booked up for the weekend with 3 friends. we shared a room and considering there were 4 girls getting ready to go out on the town, there was plenty of space for our things. the beds were comfy, room was clean, extra towels were given. We had dinner in the hotel which was amazing, bar food was nice and breakfast was ok but there was a great selection. Staff were also helpful and friendly! The train/bus station is literally a 5 minute walk and the shops/ nighttime is 10 minutes walk, 2 minute taxi. We all said we'd definitely stay at the Western Hotel if we went to galway again!!

The hotel looks nice from the outside, and as we did not use the facilities or had the need to I cannot comment on that, However the rooms need a little updating.
I am not the one to complain on trip advisor, however the 2 bedroom suite we were given (2 couples) was in no way able to accommdate two people in what was described as a "double bed". As our partners are quite muscular in result one of the girls had to sleep on the couch.
To get to the room itself you have to go down in the elevator to the car park and walk up a car ramp to get to the suite, as this wasn't bad enough with a terrible weather outside, there are no phones in the rooms (at least in the suites) so if you need to reach reception you have to go outside - again through the ramp.
There seems to be lack of communication between staff, as we were given a printed wifi code on our envelope and that didnt work, after having to walk through the ramp up the car park elevator and to the reception, the girl said "oh nobody told you it was changed?" as if we were regulars and were supposed to know that.
The first impression of the rooms were nice, however there ware hair all over the hair dryer which put me off right away and mould on the bathroom tiles and cutlery in the drawers were sticky.
It definitely needs a little updating.

We stayed for 2 nights over New Years Eve. Without GPS, the hotel is a nightmare to find. We ended up finding the hotel by looking up at the buildings and recognising the rooms. What we didn't realised when we found the apartments was that the reception was actually at the hotel another block up the street - there is also no parking out the front either.

When we arrived in our room (1 bed apartment) we were very disappointed. The room was small and pokey. The bathroom was old and very ordinary. The king size bed was in fact 2 singles joinen with nothing but a fitted sheet (very uncomfortable). Whilst it was clean enough, it was nothing like the pictures. And the view looking out over Galway bay - well lets just say we were facing the other side of the building.

Positive - its walking distance to everything you want to visit in Galway. It also has a washing machine/dryer (2 in1).

Negative - the hotel overcharged me and I am still trying to claim the money back.

For what we paid, we will definately be staying in a 5 star hotel next time. Overall just a very disappointing experience.

We had a 2 night stay in this hotel just after Christmas. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The room was warm and comfortable. The hotel has a pub and restaurant. The food is great and good value for money. The breakfast offered provided plenty of options and a great start to the day. The hotel is located at the top of a hill just on the edge of the city only a few minutes walk away. Galway has plenty of good pubs and restaurants to choose from, all within easy walking distance of the hotel. The only problem we initially experienced was parking. Get clear instructions when you first arrive as to how to gain access. The car park does not have enough spaces so the Hotel allows you to 'park in' other cars. This isn't as bad as it sounds as they have an employee who moves the cars to allow access. He is very good and we had no problem getting our car to explore Galway County and beyond.
