“Wonderful Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2014

As the title says staying here was an absolutely wonderful experience. This is a family run bed and breakfast and I must say the family really made our stay enjoyable. They even drove into town when we were going for dinner on our second night!
Our room was a large double room overlooking the bay and it was absolutely spotless.
The breakfast was topnotch, and the owner recommended a very good restaurant at the golf course which we really enjoyed. Christina (the hostess) organised a bus to pick us up directly outside the house after breakfast one morning and bring us to the ferry for the Aran day trip, which was great.

Overall this was one of the highlights of our trip to Ireland and we would love to come back again.

Room Tip: The room we had to the front of the house was very spacious and had a beautiful view of the sea.

We had an enjoyable stay at Cashelmara Lodge and Christina, Husband Patrick (Padraig?) and family we encountered were most engaging and attentive. The location in Salthill was ideal being close to the promenade but far away from traffic and our room was prepared and cleaned to a very high standard. Internet access was fast and easy to access but for us the highlight was breakfast. While the Irish Breakfast looked and smelled delightful, the porridge (yes, in May!) was just about the best we've ever had, with the side of honey, cream and berries making it the single most enjoyable breakfast we had on our trip!

Room Tip: Book well in advance if you want a front facing room.

When we arrived the owner didn't think anyone had booked as she was cleaning up the house as she had been busy on the previous days with the local elections. We we eventually shown to our room and told to go to the golf club if we wanted dinner. We then asked about wifi and she tried to help but said one of her family would help when they return. The golf club meal was well worth it. Room was comfortable . She knocked on the door the next morning to ask how we were paying . It appeared she had just got out of bed as she had her night clothes on . When we left 1 hour later at around 9.30 am she still hadn't bothered to dress. We got the impression that she really didn't want guests that day . Wouldn't go back or recommend. No breakfast was included.

Christina provided the best breakfast we had on our trip to Ireland, with a beautifully cooked Irish breakfast on cracking hot plates. The perc coffee was great as well. But there were disappointments. When we arrived, I had to knock on the locked door until Christina arrived. When I said we had a booking she replied, "no you haven't". On checking, she conceded we did and let us in. We were shown to a beautiful room and had just settled in when she asked to move to an inferior and smaller room (double bed and single although we had asked only for a double bed room) - because we had booked only one night and she had a booking for 3 nights. If we were not so tired, we would have left then. Then we were told that a birthday party was being held that night, to keep our window closed. It was very noisy and kept us awake until midnight. If we had been recompensed in some way (such as a complimentary breakfast), we would not have left feeling so aggrieved. Overall the experience was unpleasant.

Room Tip: "The large room with the queen size bed"

Hostess Christina was a delight. We were there during a slow period, so she spent a lot of time chatting with us about her life, making suggestions on things to do, and seeing to it that we enjoyed our time in the Galway area. Internet service was a bit iffy (not good in the room, but fine in the parlor), but Christina said she's been trying to get the utility people to fix that and it probably has been done by now.

This B&B has a beautiful view of the harbor. We stayed in a back room (for a larger bed) so could not see the view from our room, but there is a lovely balcony at the front of the house available to all the guests. The location is especially suitable if you have a car. Salt Hill is well situated for getting into Galway, and also for touring the Connemara region and for getting a boat to the Aran Islands (all highly recommended).

Stayed here for 2 nights. I felt like home, the room was perfect, the breakfast was delicious and the hosts were too good to us. It was a perfect long weekend off. We will be back as soon as we can take a few days off!

Very cosy , feels like home. The owners are excellent. They really want to make sure that you make the best of your visit to Ireland. They gave us excellent suggestions on where to go. Thumbs up to that! Parking is convenient, right in front of the house. Breakfast is wholesome.

Payment is by cash.
