Tucked in with all the rest of the B&B's on the approach to Galway City, is the Four Seasons with its distinctive blue and yellow sign. An unassuming brick-face home with peonies blooming in May when we arrived, the Four Seasons offered the perfect balance of rest, comfort food and all of the information you could need for a visit to the Western Port, the Aran Isles or the Cannamora wilderness. While spotless and tidy, it is not luxurious. It is really the hosts Helen and Eddie who make this place a treasure. Helen effortlessly produces eggs, smoked salmon, fruit and the creamiest scones for breakfast that you will ever find. Then acts as this is nothing - just usual. We were even offered extras in a Ziploc bag to take for a long day on Inesmore. Eddie, a true Irishman, will tell you in detail, not only where to find the best music, but the history of the pub you are going to as well as that of Ireland itself. Any questions of complicated politics of the Irish and he's right there with his sparkly wit. Galway is a dynamic and beautiful city with a lovely waterfront. Four Seasons was an easy 15 min walk from the city center. A pleasure.

Room Tip: Ours faced the garden and were quiet. There is no pool or fitness as its a B&B.

As others have posted, Helen and Eddie really are what makes this b&b so nice. Their warmth to us and our 3.5 year old son was genuine and much appreciated on our 2nd and 3d nights in Ireland. The facilities are a bit worn with updating needed on paint and carpet, but things are kept clean and the sheets were quite nice. The breakfast was great with eggs, smoked salmon, a delicious omelette, fresh squeezed orange juice, and tasty homemade bread and scones. Also, do remember that as with most b&bs, this is someone's home rather than a hotel, so there is more noise from plumbing and talking than you might have in a hotel. That said, we had a room on the back of the house and had no street noise whatsoever. The location of the property gives about a 10+ min walk to Eyre Square, slightly longer home because there is a bit of a hill at one part. It is an easy pleasant walk.

Room Tip: I can't compare with the front of the house, but the back had no street noise.

If you're looking for an incredible, made-to-order breakfast, and two of the most personable hosts in the country, you can't go wrong with Eddie and Helen at Four Seasons! We love Galway, and spent three nights there. The first two were in the large attic room (do watch your head -- some low ceilings!), which we quite enjoyed, and were moved down to another room the third night, which was equally quiet and comfortable. One of the highlights of our stay there were our apres-breakfast chats with Eddie, in which we discussed everything from education to politics to our kids over coffee. Eddie's omelets are amazing, and Helen's homemade scones the best we had in Ireland. They were both very informative as to suggestions for sight-seeing and dining. A wonderfully fun stay (and within walking distance of downtown)!

We found Four Seasons in a travel guide and trip advisor and were attracted by the good reviews and also the location. It is in walking distance to the city center (15-20 minutes) so we were able to leave our car the whole time we were in Galway. (I don't like driving into city centers and paying to park!) Our room was smallish but comfortable. The breakfasts were cooked to order and very good- and our hosts Helen and Eddie even provided tin foil for the food we wanted to take for a later snack. Helen and Eddie and super warm and friendly and Eddie especially regaled us with tales of history that really added to our experience. We would highly recommend staying here.

We stayed three nights at this lovely B & B. The rooms were nice and clean with very comfy beds. (They even iron the sheets!) Eddie and Helen are great hosts with wonderful senses of humor. They provide a great breakfast and fruit is always available plus tea service in the room. It's a 5 minute walk to the bus station ( where you catch a lot of tours) and about 10 minutes to the city center. When we make it back to Ireland we will visit again!
