Thank you for taking the time out to give us constructive feedback, it is greatly appreciated. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us in Ashgrove House. Just to clarify that the "blood cake" is in fact Irish black pudding and although not to everybodys taste, is always part of a traditional Irish breakfast.
Kind Regards,
Angela Martyn

You're only about a 10- to 15-minute walk from the bustle of the center of Galway, but your base of operations at Ash Grove House is a comfortable place to come in from the action and rest up for your next adventure. Located on a quiet street with a lovely, peaceful garden in back, Ash Grove House is a cozy place where the hosts will serve you a great breakfast and give you advice for your stay in Galway. The three of us had two bedrooms--snug but adequate for our needs. In fact, the second bedroom had a lovely sliding pocket door (see the photos) for privacy and added a touch of elegance to the suite. Parking is on-site and free (another plus). As we were leaving, a little robin (Irish robins are tiny--about the size of a sparrow) hopped onto the hood of our car and the side-view mirror, something that probably wouldn't have happened in a busier environment. And yet, when you're ready for some serious pub-crawling and exploring, the city of Galway awaits, only minutes away on foot.

Room 22 had both a double and single bed in it and no space for just the 2 of us to put luggage. When we checked in asked for a double bed room only, person not interested in changing the room. Wardrobe door was a 2/3 size, had a chair in front of it, this chair was shifted several times for better access etc. The shower door also was a 2/3 width, wouldnt be good if you were tall or wide, difficult to find a space in the ensuite to undress or dry oneself, and the only spot for clothes was the toilet seat. When sitting on toilet your knees are under the pedestal basin. Perhaps other rooms are better.

Thank you very much for taking the time to give us feedback Annski. We find it very helpful as we are constantly trying to improve our guests' experience. Firstly I would like to apologise that we were unable to accommodate you with your preference for a double room. At your time of booking rooms with both double and single beds were all that was available. We are very sorry that your room did not fit your needs and that you did not have a comfortable stay. Should you choose to visit us again we hope that we can find a room that better accommodates you and that next time you will have a more enjoyable visit to Ashgrove House.
Kind Regards,
Angela

We loved this place! The staff was so accommodating and the rooms were comfortable, immaculate and beautiful. The pictures don't do it justice! Just a quick walk from the center of Galway, the location is perfect. The breakfast was one of the best we've had on our trip so far! I don't think you can beat the value and comfort of Ash Grove and I would definitely reccommend it, and hope to return!

We enjoyed our stay at Ash Grove House during the days prior to St. Patrick's Day. We stayed in room 26 that had a double and a twin bed. The room was spacious and clean. We found it quite comfortable. The bathroom was very small but provided us with the basics. The shower was small but always had hot water. The mirror area of the bathroom was small, but there is a large full length mirror in the room area. There is also a desk that provided a nice place to work or unpack items.

The location is very nice. I think it is perfect if you are seeking somewhere near the action but not in the thick of things. It was about 10 minutes walking to the main area of Galway (pubs, etc.) or a 5 euro, 5 minute cab ride. The hotel is about 10 minutes from the bus station and was 7 euro. You might even be able to walk it but we had a lot of luggage.

Breakfast was provided and was very good. I actually did not partake as I do not care for eating early, but my friend did enjoy the breakfast each morning. You order it prior to bed the night before so they can prepare it.

The staff was lovely. They were very nice and did their best to meet your needs. There is a phone in the entry way that you can call a taxi with. We found this very helpful. The front door is locked and you are provided a key to enter as well as one for your room.

The place is, clearly, more of a house than a large hotel or hostel. One Saturday night we were preparing to leave for a night at the pub and were called and asked to be quiet at about 9:10pm. We do try to be respectful of other guests and are aware of typical quiet times in hotels/b&bs. Usually, on weekends you are asked to be quiet after 10 or 11. As it was the weekend before St. Patrick's Day and the day before a huge rugby match, we were surprised when we were called by the staff and told to be quiet. I assume that another guest complained about the noise, though there were just the two of us talking and playing music. This meant that the staff felt they had to contact us to tell us to be quiet. I have no problem with being respectful of late/early hours, but was a little put off that their stay/comfort seemed more valuable than ours. I looked at the house rules that night and the next day and did not find anything indicating quiet hours at 9pm. If you plan to stay around a large holiday or sporting event, I am not sure I recommend staying here. I do think that this was more a reflection of another guest's complaints, but did not appreciate being scolded to be quiet in our room at 9pm on a Saturday night.

Ideal location (nice and quiet with a 10 minute walk to city centre), ideal room (family room with two separate bedrooms), ideal breakfast (including porridge for the marathon runners among us and pancakes for the kids). We hope to be back soon!

We saw it on the map and decided to pull in as we were driving through Galway. The staff and the owners were very nice and the room was ideal for us. We told the owner we were looking for some out of the way places to drive to on the west coast and he planned out our next three days for us. We saw parts of rural Ireland I'm sure we would have missed otherwise. Galway is a great place to walk around. Check out the King's Head Bar it's worth a pint or two.
