I have mixed feelings about this hotel. The location is great, Shop Street, pubs, restaurants etc are all within easy walking distance and the hotel is very clean. My complaints are cosmetic!
The decor upstairs of rooms facing the front is beautiful, they have kept the old traditional look which fits in lovely with the building however my husband stayed in the hotel a few nights previously and was in a room overlooking the station (at the back) and he said they weren't half as nice but still fine. I really don't like what they have done downstairs in the main hotel reception areas, the walls are painted black and gold giving it a modern facelift but I remember staying in this hotel nearly 30 years ago and I think the old owners would be turning in their graves to see it now. It was such a grand hotel years ago, now it feels like a hotel trying too hard. I would stay here again but I really don't like the decor downstairs! The No. 15 restaurant served a great breakfast with very pleasant staff but the restaurant lacks character for an evening meal.

Room Tip: Request a room at the front of the hotel overlooking Eyre Square

Conveniently located. Modern and updated. Good wifi in the rooms and free. Staff very helpful and accomodating. Very clean. Valet parking only 5euro per day. Brasserie pub had great food and well priced. Number 15 restaurant (formerly oyster grill) had very good food but slow service.

The Meyrick is a lovely refurbished old hotel in the heart of Galway, a location overlooking the park. It has an old-timey elegant feel, although the sports bar was new and lively.
Our room was on the fifth floor overlooking the back - a very large and quiet suite with a terrific king bed. The bathroom was likewise large, lighting dim.
However, with the renovation, they also kept on the old electrical system, so much so that it was very confusing. After 20 minutes trying to figure out how to turn on the bedside light (really), we called the front desk, who sent up a charming porter to fix it. (It was he who told us about the antiquated system kept with the new.) They need to fix that, or provide each room with How To Do the Lights instruction. (We were not the only ones with that problem.)
Breakfast was okay, but the Oyster Grill dining room in the basement with low ceilings was claustrophobic. The bar there was nice, and as it had an exit to the street (and daylight), it was much more charming. Food at dinner was merely okay.

Room Tip: High up; the back view of distant bay might not be as pretty, but it was quiet.

Lovely traditional hotel in the heart of Galway city centre, we were on the 5th floor in a suite, as a complementary upgrade, and were very impressed!
Bottled water available in the room upon arrival, large bathroom, beautiful views of eyre square and the Christmas market. Very convenient location, valet parking very handy, and luggage was brought to our room upon arrival, along with complementary teas and coffees.
Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: 5th floor suites are beautiful

I have visited Galway many times and have often admired this famous old hotel from the outside so I was delighted to finally have an opportunity to actually stay there when invited by business colleagues. The welcome extended by the reception staff on arrival confirmed the view I had always held that this would be a special place to stay. I was greeted warmly and although my room was not ready (I arrived early) I was checked in and my bag taken and looked after (it was in my room when I returned later in the day). I stayed in a fabulous room on the fourth floor looking over Eyre Square. if felt like everywhere I looked there was a chandelier! I would thoroughly recommend a stay here. On the doorstep of Galway with the whole city within walking distance and an abundance of style and class not found in average hotel chain this is the place to stay!

Room Tip: I like the view over Eyre Square, though I did hear some noise at night it was not enough to disturb...

The Hotel Meyrick is an older hotel convenient to shopping, restaurants, and pubs in the area. However, it shows its age and although satisfactory I would choose another place to stay in the Galway area that was close to the same area. The hotel is located across the street from a park populated with many young people as a "hang out" which can be uncomfortable walking through at night. The hotel is supposedly rated at 4 stars and we had what was called a Classic Double room and it was alright but I would not put it in the 4 start category. The breakfast was good with a reasonable choice but not extravagant and the staff was friendly with good concierge service.

Regarding the park across the road from the hotel, sure a lot of young kids come and play their skate boarding and just hanging out, but believe me there is never any issue with them.

Nothing not too like about this hotel. We stayed on the executive floor with a lovely room overlooking the city. Lovely added extras which you would expect paying a bit more for a touch of luxury. Loved the fire next to the sofas in reception. We looked at the spa facilities but didn't get the time to use them - the hot tub looked inviting though. Great location for exploring Galway. Breakfast was lovely .. Lots of lovely cakes on offer.
