“Nice hotel but like sleeping beside a race track”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2012

Nice hotel but was like trying to sleep beside a race track. We stayed 1 night and would not go back based on this experience. Our room was looking out on the main dual carriage way and the noise in the room was very bad. Neither of us slept more than an hour with the noise coming from the road. If you are staying here make sure you ask not to be on the dual carriage side as its impossible to sleep with the noise.

Dear vigor1,

Thank you for posting a review of your recent stay. I'm sorry your one night with us wasn't as good as you had hoped and that you were disturbed by the traffic noise. This is something we are working to eliminate entirely. At present only a small number of rooms are affected and then even at that for a lot of people it isn't an issue once the windows are kept shut. At the same time though I am conscious this is a problem for some people and we are working through these rooms one by one and I am confident that shortly we will resolve this issue. In the meantime if you were to return, because you are aware of the traffic, we could allocate you a room on the inside of the hotel.

Kind regards

Have stayed here on a number of occasions. Really close to the racecourse and merlin park hospital. 10 min drive from the city. Staff are outstanding, nothing is too much trouble, they really are a credit to their managers. Breakfasts are lovely, food in bar is nice. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Overall a great hotel that is excellent value for money.

Had an enjoyable one night stay at the Clayton. The reception staff were very friendly and gave us good advice. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean, and the bed was very comfortable. Cooked breakfast was fine. Unfortunately didn't have time to use the pool. I thought this hotel was very good value for money.

Stayed here lately with our 2 year old. Highly recommend for a family type of break. Exceptional value compared to other hotels around Galway.

Service at reception very prompt. Room was good size and very clean. Ate in the restaurant one of the nights and the meal was superb.

Swimming pool was nice, however, a bit small. It was well supervised with a lifeguard present for the entire time we were at the pool.

The cooked breakfast (buffet) was not great however, so we opted for the continental on the second morning. Very good options for the continental.

We had stayed at this hotel 2 years ago and some small things have slipped, carpet in bedroom was badly stained and small things like doors need a bit of paint.

Overall, it was very enjoyable and we would have no hesitation in returning again. Staff were very friendly and efficient.

We really enjoyed our stay at the clayton. The staff were all really nice and could,nt do enough for us. The rooms were a very good size and well equiped. There is a bus stop across the road that brings you into the city and there is a bus every 30 mins. All in all very nice stay.

We booked the Clayton on one of the late hotel booking websites- after checking out trip advisor. -At that stage we didn't realize that it had receeived the 2012 award!!!

We booked 2 double rooms aboaut a month before and got them for 1/4 of the normal tariff charges!

Our rooms were amazing- so big, with air conditioning, tea making facitlities and a king sized bed and double bed in every room- we had a full suite of leather furniture in our room, it was so big.!!!

The pool was really super too- with a sauna and stam room too and the option of a small gym, if you are feeling energetic!

We didn;t eat in the hotel, but the coffee Dack was great and the bar satff were more than helpful.

We found a fab coffee shop across the road in a small shopping centre that did great breakfasts ffrom 5 Euro. ( we bought some great pastries there to enjoy back at the botel too!!!
There's also a pharmacy there for any toiletry needs and a small supermarkt for bottled water, etc.
The bus stop just outside tsakes you straight into Eyre Square- but cross the road to get it- or you will just be doing a journey down the road and back. I also booked a massage in the Q Club Beauty facility in the hotel and I honestly have never had such a good back massage- def recommended!!!
This is the perfect hotel for the Galway Races- It's proably the closest to them- but you would need to book early for that!! there were a few hen parties at the hotel but you would never have known they were there. The hotel was very quiet- even though there is entertainment on at weekends and special festivals.
Don't forget to go to Quay Street when you reach Galway City -it's fantastic! So much to do in that area- we bought some fab wine and cheese in Sheridan's cheesemongers in Church Yard (there's a market there on Saturdays with everything from oysters to crafts and chinese massages!!)
Also, McDonagh's fish and chip shop is a must, as well as Fat Freddie's pizzas and Griffins for coffee and Taffes for traditional music and... the list is endless!!!

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and sunny.
