“Great location, value, staff.”

We decided to splurge and pay an extra 5 euros pp to upgrade from a dorm and we didn't regret it. The rooms are comfortable with en-suite bathrooms. Staff are friendly. Breakfast is included. There are no lockers or luggage storage however. Location is great - a quick walk from the train station and everything is quite close.
They also offer bike rentals for just 10 euros daily, which we took advantage of. The route to Muckross House and Gardens and the loop/torc waterfall were easy to get to and beautiful!

Room Tip: They already don't allow eating/drinking (anything, including alcohol) so any shared room should...

I recently stayed here with a group of friends, I was the only woman of the group. It has a perfect location right in the middle of Killarney, the only thing that let this hostel down was the gentleman who was in charge.

We were put in the room which sleeps 8 which was a patio, and were told we can not use it, so don't go out there!

He made me feel very uncomfortable and was very rude to our group. It is obvious that he dislikes Irish people, he cursed at us and kept trying to belittle us. I did not feel comfortable staying there. The only reason I stayed was because everywhere else was fully booked. He was very unwelcoming.

My husband and I stayed at Sugan in April and it was very nice. It was the best hostel we stayed in in Ireland and the private room was clean and comfortable. The staff were nice and they have a large kitchen for cooking your own food. Breakfast is typical of hostel food and they have coffee and tea. Definitely recommend this place.

First off, some complaints. TINY room. My wife and I got a private room and it barely fit the bed. Hardly any room to even put our bags down. Also, the bedsheets and pillows did not feel clean so sleep quality here was subpar. Shower only gets lukewarm at best, towels cost 2 euros each to use, and the breakfast is nothing more than some pieces of bread and condiments.

On a positive note, the hostel is centrally located and parking is easily available just up the street for 3 euros a day. The bikes that are available for rental (for 10 euros each) are in decent condition, but directions/maps do not come with the bikes. We had to find our own way around town and to the Gap of Dunloe. But it all worked out. Also, the free wifi was nice to have, even if it was slow.

Overall experience was average for a hostel.

Sugan was nice. The staff was great. Very nice and funny and helpful. The breakfast didn't consist of much, but was ok. They have a nice community kitchen. The shower room for the 8 bed room was also a cleaning closet... The linens were dated but clean. The location is perfect. They also have a great deal for renting bikes. I advise buying a legitimate map.

The Sugan Hostel in Killarney is a very charming place to stay. The common area is rather small but cozy with free wifi access. We stayed in an 8 bed dorm which was one of the nicest rooms I have seen so far in a hostel. The bathroom and toilet were okay, could be cleaner but that's nearly always true for hostels. One toilet and one shower for a room of 8 people is not enough, however. If four people have to get up at the same time in the morning some planning is required. The breakfast was good, standard toast, jam, cereals, chocolate spread and tea. The hostel has no safety lockers only rooms with a combination lock, which is unacceptable. Apart from that: great place!
