We had our wedding at The Cahernane Hotel in September, this hotel is absolutely fabulous. We had a small wedding party of about 26 people and which was the perfect size for our party. We had our civil ceremony performed in the back conservatory overlooking the mountains and lake. We went on a trip to the gap of Dunloe for drinks and small snack and when we returned the dining room had been coverted into an amazing dinner reception room. Decoration was perfect and kept to a minumum with candelabras and flowers on each table, as this is an original 17th Centurty Manor house the property spoke for itself with ornate framed original oil paintings on the walls and antique furniture and ornament adorning the rooms..just stunning. After dinner we had our band play in the drawing room which was also fabulous, there was a mini bar set up in the other liivng room off the main drawing room which was also wonderful with the same decor which is throughout the property, some of the wedding party spilled out into the foyer where there was an open orginal fire with stags head above it. After the band finished we returned to the cyrpt bar where our DJ Paddy Fagan played excellent tunes to everones delight, the cypt is an old converted wine cellar which has cobble effect floors and ceiling very gothic-esque style small and very cool, there is a billards room adjacent also which can be used for drinks and games. We had the entire venue to our disposal and no curfew for our DJ so we danced and laughed unti the early morning sun rise. The staff are fantastic and attended to our every need. I will return to stay once more before I emmirgate to the US. I would highly recommend a stay at this Hotel. Dont expect your wifi to work all the time, and dont expect fast broadband and the most modern electronic services ike that as this is located in a far away part of Ireland, and part of the charm is escaping my iphone and laptop and enjoying the peace and quiet of country living. Fabulous hotel for a wedding or weekend stay.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the original suite room, lovely :-) Also a room at the back overlooking the mountains...

Have stayed in Cahernane at least 5 times in past 4 years. What can I say, it's totally different to any other hotel in Killarney. It really is like stepping back in history and getting to experience Killarney origins of the Herbert family. We have gotten to know Mary in reception, who is a real asset to the hotel and has very kindly upgraded us on a few times. Myself and my girlfriend really enjoy the place, some other places in Killarney are more modern and up to date with wifi etc. But u don't go here for wifi or plasma televisions in bedrooms. It's about it's classic charm. The breakfast is the absolute best in Killarney. Ask to stay in old part of hotel!! Hope to return: Adrian & Kathryn:)

We flew all the way from Florida, USA to get married in this magical place. As soon as ergot there, they upgraded us to the penthouse suite-so sweet of them. The staff was very nice and the food was very good. The scenery is breathtaking-not sure why there would be any negative reviews about this place. The cahernane house made our wedding day that much more special! Beautiful, beautiful hotel! We stayed at the fair view as well, which is a nice hotel but it just does not compare to the cahernane house. Doesn't get much better than this place!

Stayed here recently and should have been warned off at the start. Unless you have a jeep don't attempt the driveway, when we did get parked and were unloading our luggage all we could hear was roaring from what my partner later found out was the kitchen (so much for a tranquil country house)

On check in we were condescended and spoken down to by the receptionist (a blonde lady who never gave us her name)

The bedroom we were in was lovely, it was in the old house but all around the place you can see the owners are battling to scrimp every penny they can, cheap fixes done to everything from furniture to the roof which was badly leaking in the corridor and conservatory. Cobwebs everywhere!!!!!

Food was good but very pretentious. The bar and restaurant staff were lovely but were let down by the manageress/owner (another blonde lady, don't know her exact role but she certainly acted like the owner) who went around snapping at the staff and altogether looked very dour.

Not worth a quarter of what we paid, couldn't wait to get out of the place.

Will not return.

Stayed here for one night this week. Beautiful old country house, nice clean room but we were woken at 5:30 a.m. from the noise of the creaking floor boards in the room above us. Our own room also had this problem. I understand that old houses creak but this noise was ridiculous. Surely this is something that could be fixed? Also the driveway, although lovely is littered with huge potholes which take a bit of skill to avoid. Breakfast was good. Great location.

One of the worst hotels I ever stayed in. We were in room 15. The wallpaper was all stained. It was very dirty looking and torn in places. There were cobwebs in the windows and the varnish was gone off the window frames. Their website promises fruit bowl and chocolates in the room as well as a turndown service and slippers, none of which we received. We also had booked a deluxe room which is supposed to have a private patio with garden furniture. We did not receive this room and furthermore received no apology or explanation from the staff or any form of compensation. Room service was extremely slow, 45mins for a bottle of wine. The curtains were torn and didn't close properly. There were big floodlights outside the room which kept our room brightly lit all night, disturbing our sleep. No WiFi and only saorview tv. The only good thing about this hotel was the breakfast and waiting staff. Front of house staff were rude and dismissive. Throw on the bed was very tired and most of the beaded edge had fallen off. Throw pillow was awful too, badly needs replacing. Some of the furniture was broken. Overall a very disappointing stay and not worth the money. In fact they have some cheek to be charging what they do.
