“Great value for money”
Reviewed 17 September 2011

Stayed 4 nights in the Castlerosse with a small group in September. The vast majority of residents at this time of year were senior citizens who were there to enjoy themselves.
Staff at reception and in restaurant were very helpful. Rooms were fine and beds were very comfortable.
The hotel was over 90% full every night so they are doing something right.
Dinner in the restaurant was excellent. There was a slight delay getting a booked table but this was not surprising with the large numbers. Breakfast was also tasty and substantial.
The group rates for bed, breakfast and dinner were extremely good value and I hope to return there again.
The leisure facilities are very good and I used them regularly. Did not use the hotel golf course but it looked great. Walked in the adjacent national park each day amidst stunning scenery.
It was a surprise to find that free wifi was available but only in the foyer and other public places. It would be better if this could be extended to the rooms.
I also had a problem with some of the bar staff. I was watching a Sky TV event. The sound was turned off as there was music being played and this was fine. A barman turned off the set and when I asked why said he was following instructions but would check it out.but never came back to me. However this was the only fault I found and pales in comparison with the postitves.

Room Tip: Rooms with view of lake are best.

Greeted on arrival by friendly accommodating staff who quickly upgraded us to a family room which had much more space for two lively toddlers!!! However the corridors and rooms were looking the worse for wear, on the grubby side, and the beds were so damp that the only thing stopping me demanding a different room wasthe fct that the two kids were asleep. The kids loved the swimming pool which was ideal for children with a seperate shallow pool for the younger children! A playground on site was great for energetic little bodies and larger bodies alike!!! Enjoyed the breakfast in the hotel but the evening meal which was included in the deal was a definite disappointment and was glad to eat away from the hotel on subsequent nights. Having ordered crispy pork stir-fry, I was somewhat taken aback to be presented with a plate of pork stew (of boarding school standard!!) I felt that this hotel did not offer value for money, and while I was sorry to leave Killarney I certaintly won't be returning to Castlerosse.

Room Tip: Asking for a room overlooking the lake and golf course will probably mean a quieter room, as our gro...

My wife and I stayed in the cottages with another couple for two nights, we were very impressed with the accommodation. The bedrooms were spacious and the kitchen facities were satisfactory. On the second night we availed of a four course dinner at a reduced cost to residents, it was great value and it came with a free drink.

The cottages were very clean on our arrival and we would definitely stay here on our return to the wonderful village of Killarney

Room Tip: Ring and speak to reception

Immaculate hotel, no service complaints as such.
Maybe it was the time of year or the weather - but did not get the warm and welcoming feeling as with many of the hotels we've stayed at in Killarney.

I recently booked a lodge at the Castlerosse Hotel & Gold Resort. I was staying with my family, (one child age 2). The Lodge was very spacious, clean, all mod cons, full kitchen etc. which was great with kids. The lodge took while to heat up at night though. the hotel was beautiful, we ate in the hotel one night, food was superb, restaurant looked fab although we didn't chance it with a toddler. The view from hotel is amazing, would def recomment for people to stay in hotel. We used leisure facilities a lot which were great, could have done with a playpen in changing area but not the end of the world without one. Staff very friendly and helpful. electricity was charged extra per day and at €6 per day, I thought it was a bit expensive as we were hardly there to be honest. Hotel also has playground on site for kids which was good and access to the National Park for lovely walks. You would nearly have to drive to the town centre but we didn't mind this. All in all, will def go back.

We stayed in the castlerosse for a short three night break in early September and enjoyed it so much we stayed an extra night. The staff and facility's were second to none including the leisure centre and the food was excellent with breakfast being served until 10.30 which was most welcome due to Killarney's nitelife.
Our room was quite big "number 221" if you require lots of space, however it was a little dated although the balcony and size of the room more than made up for this.
This seems like a family run hotel as staff and managers were very friendly and helpful. There is a lovely 2 km walk through the national park in to Killarney town centre which was beautiful with breathtaking scenery, honestly I could go on and on.
This is an ideal hotel for families what with the pool and play area for kids and the chalets. Well done to all at the Castlerosse I look forward to going back to Killarney and seeing you all again.

Decided before the long dreary winter starts we would take a trip to Killarney. We stayed here on numerous occasions and as always had a lovely relaxing few days. We arrived at the hotel and were given the room we requested without any problem. We ate in Mulligans Bar on the Friday night and on Saturday night in the Restaurant. The food on both occasions was exceptional, plenty of it and the restaurant and bar staff were helpful and friendly. Congrats to Danny and his staff he runs a lovely hotel, we'll be back. Killarney was buzzing cant wait to return.
