“Felt right at home”

My friend and I stayed at Friar’s Glen for 3 nights the first week of June and we loved our stay at this beautiful property. Upon our arrival, John carried our heavy luggage up to our room. Mary served us tea and hot chocolate in the sitting room and gave us lots of information & maps to all the area attractions. We stayed in Room 10 which was very spacious for two people. The bathroom was also very roomy. Brigid greeted us each morning in the dining room and made sure we were well taken care of for breakfast, which was always very good. She was always there throughout the day to answer questions and provide us with any additional information we needed. You feel like you are away from it all, but yet it is just a short drive into town. We loved everything about this place. Brigid, Mary, and John make it extra special.

we stayed at Friar's Glen recently and enjoyed every minute. offered afternoon tea on arrival and made welcome by owner Mary. The rooms were spotless and beds very comfy. This b and b is in a national park and very relaxing. If you are looking for a great place to stay - this is it!!

Our family stayed at Friars Glen in May for two nights and really enjoyed our time there. Mary was helpful in offering suggestions for dining and also night time entertainment for our girls as she has a daughter about the same age as ours. The location was very peaceful and quiet and a short drive into Killarney. Breakfasts were also great and were the best we had during our trip. In addition, this place is really clean! Our interest included hiking in Killarney National Park and visting Muckross House & Estates and the Muckross Abbey. Perfect location for all of this! On our departure day, John was very helpful in giving advise for the best roads to drive to get to Killkenny. We would highly recommend Friars Glen.

My friend and I were so looking forward to our trip to Ireland and staying at Friars Glen was definitely one of the best choices we made. We were harried when we arrived after getting lost and Bridget took care of us right away. She planned our carriage ride through Killarney National Park and we really enjoyed her sense of humor. The rooms are very spacious and clean, and the property is so quaint. It was also the best breakfast we had since arriving in Ireland some four days earlier - the pancakes were to die for. After we got settled, we really enjoyed the following day taking a private boat tour that Bridget arranged through the beautiful lakes. Mary, the owner was very gracious and shared some stories about the property and its history - a lovely woman. If we ever return to Ireland, we will be visiting Friars Glen again! Miss you, Bridget! My wife and I stayed for 2 nights at Friars Glen in May 2014 and absolutely loved it! We were looking for a "country house" type Inn slightly outside the town center that would provide a beautiful setting, peace and quiet, and still be close enough to town as not to be too inconvenient to drive in for dinner or to see the sites/hop on a tour. On all fronts Friars Glen exceeded expectations. Mary was such a gracious host and was there waiting for us even though we arrived later than anticipated (got a late start driving from the Rock of Cashel). She gave a us a ton of information about activities so we could make the most of our next day, and even called and booked us a spot on the Gap of Dunloe tour. Breakfast was perfect, one of the best we had during our stay in Ireland.

Although Friars is not within walking distance of the town center, Mary was happy to arrange a cab for us on our second and final night, which picked us up within 10 minutes of her call. Getting a cab back was very easy as well. And if you did want to walk somewhere, Molly Darcy's Pub is right down the street (go early though - we tried to have dinner there around 8 and we unable to get a table).

Overall a great experience - we would not hesitate to stay there again if we had the opportunity. Thanks to Mary, John, and Bridget for operating such a great place!

The grounds and house are beautiful and the setting is bucolic. We saw deer while eating breakfast each morning, along with birds and other wildlife. The B & B is in the National Park and is easy to find. We chose this location as a base for driving the Ring of Kerry and exploring Dingle, both of which were an easy drive of 30 minutes to an hour and a half from this B & B.

Mary and John were good hosts and the breakfast was very tasty. They have 10 rooms which are spacious and quiet. The B & B was the most "hotel-like" we had stayed at, and the largest. There were quite a few people at breakfast each morning. However; the personal attention kept the B & B from feeling like a small hotel. We enjoyed the peat fires in the sitting room at night, and talking with other guests. The beds were comfortable, and the bathtub was huge (great for tall people!)

We had a great time staying here and would definitely stay here again!

Just spent two nights in Friars Glen and had a wonderful time. A breath of fresh air in a very busy tourist town. The B&B is located a little way out of town in a beautiful woodland setting - if you're lucky you even get to see deer in the garden! The location is perfect for visiting Muckross House. The Torc Waterfall and of course the National Park and the Lakes. You can walk to these beautiful spots if you have the time, by car it's only a few minutes.
However the highlight of a stay at Friars Glen are the people. Mary your host is warm and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble and help is at hand for anything you might need. We arrived tired and in need of refreshment and Mary took us straight through to the garden and brought out a fresh pot of tea and home made cakes. She sat down with us and made us feel right at home. A great beginning to a great stay.
We also loved meeting Bridget in the mornings. She helps out with the breakfasts and is a true character, has everyone in stitches. Now I know what Irish crack is all about after meeting Bridget. Seriously though she know her stuff, great advice on day trips and driving routes! Best day out ever on the Beara peninsula, do as Bridget suggests, take the Healy Pass, you won't regret it.

Room Tip: Ask for a second floor mountain view room. Lovely views up to the mountains through the trees.
