“Terrible location, horrible room, useless Wi-Fi, inadequate parking”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

We booked "on the fly" as we entered town, based on the photos and (some) reviews of this hotel. We wanted a quiet location, decent W-Fi and parking. On arrival we realized to our horror it was located on a main road. We were shown the room (at the back as we'd asked for a quiet room) and it was horrible décor with a terrible "view" of a gravel "hill" outside in the back yard. The Wi-Fi didn't work from the rooms, and only worked in a few spots in the public areas; these days that just isn't good enough! There was no water pressure in the bath or shower, and no anti skid mat or surface in the bath. There wasn't enough room to move around the beds and the bed legs stuck right out so we kept bruising our shins. The stainless steel lid of the bin in the bathroom was covered in some brown splatters - we assume it was rust but it looked pretty disgusting. when we went out at night we couldn't park in their offstreet parking on our return; it was full... so we had to put the car out on the pavement. in the room, there was teas and coffee making but no spoons. Overall, this place was run down and no much effort was put it to provide a good service (although the reception was friendly enough). It turns out its one of three from the same chain on the same stretch of road. I'd say, unless you are a solo business traveler on a tight budget, avoid this one.

Maybe it was because we had just come from an amazing place in Kinsale, but when we arrived at Rivermere we were immediately disappointed. The family room we stayed in was dark, dingy, and the bathroom was truly awful. Luckily we checked the towel situation - no towels in the room. The beds were so uncomfortable. We had planned to stay two nights but there was no way we were going to stay a second night. Breakfast was fairly mediocre, nothing special. For this being a "budget" inn, it still wasn't inexpensive. We have made the same or less for much better places for sure.

I stay at rivermere on a regular basis as I work in the tourist industry. I felt I had to write this review, ref recent reviews. This will be my 90th review, so I'm not a 1 hit wonder. I probably stayed in most all the 30 bedrooms, never once have I found it to be dirty, or any other comments that I've read. Rivermere is the best value b&b in all Ireland, I should know. Flat screens in all rooms bar 5 rooms.multi channel TV, tea & coffee in every room, en suite. Free wifi & all for €30. Free parking. I rest my case.

I was there with a group of college students on a EF tour.

We stayed in a room with a double and a twin bed. The room was quiet--no street or hallway noise. Room darkening drapes.
The beds had clean linens and two pillows. I thought the bed was hard. There were plenty of outlets for charging our iPhones and camera batteries.

The shower had plenty of hot water and small bars of soap. No shampoo or conditioner.

The included breakfast included juice, tea or coffee, toast and a scoop of scrambled eggs, a sausage link and a slice of ham. There was also dry cereal available.

The room I stayed in was absolutely disgraceful. It was filthy at one point I felt physically sick over the smell in the room. Price was great and staff were very nice and helpful but they really need to clean up their act!

We had 3 couples travelling and booked 3 doubles but got a twin, double and family room which wasn't a great start. Walked into the room and it felt like we had landed in the Sahara, the heater was on it's highest setting and we had to leave the room to let it cool down. The place is very run down and worn out, needs a huge overhaul. TV's are very very old and it didn't work in our room, our companions were missing the ariel connection. Breakfast was included and was tasty but the saucers our cups were on, were stuck to the table, we had to use both hands to move them a little bit. If you want somewhere cheap to put your head for the night it would be ok for the price but don't expect much from the place. We would only stay again as a last resort.
