“Such a great place!”
Reviewed 21 February 2008

We stayed at Earls Court House while attending the All-Ireland Dance Championships. They accommodated our large group of dancers and families, allowing us to "take over" some of the common areas, answering our unending questions, offering advice on tours, directions, churches, running routes, pubs, shopping, etc. Food was excellent, so nice to order from a full menu of eggs/crepes or just eat a quick light bite of yogurt/bread/fruit/cereal. Our room was gorgeous with a huge bathroom. Had to put one hotel keycard into slot just inside door for electric to work in room....odd but nice to always know where one key was! Huge parking lot and just off Muckross so convenient to dance venue and town. Staff wonderful and so excited for our dancer's success...even gave the girls a box of chocolates to celebrate their win! Lots of room varieties so worked for families as well as just twosomes. Whole experience just what we needed.

We stayed at Earls Court House for two nights. This hotel is very charming. The rooms are huge and are filled with antique furniture although the bed was uncomfortable and hard as a rock. The view from our room was great with views of the mountains looming in the distance. This hotel was located close to city center however I think you could find a hotel closer on Muckross Road within the same price range. The walk to town was fairly short however there are horse drawn carriages on that road all day with the horses leaving presents behind in the road. A few times on our walk to town I had to cover my nose because the stench was so bad. I also think that the horse stables are on the way to town which probably contributed to the smell also. The hotel has a free car park and the breakfast was wonderful and included a menu that you could order from as well a cold breakfast buffet. My husband loved the homemade porridge and couldn't get enough of it!! (He still talks about it). Killarney is a fabulous little town. We had fun listening to traditional Irish music at Danny Mann's pub and even bought CD's from the band.

After reading some of the other, rather positive reviews of
Earls, I am not sure that my wife and I stayed at the same place. Overrated and overpriced, in two words. The rooms were nice and very comfortable. However, the staff was cool at best; not really in keeping with the Irish hospitality that my wife and I had been spoiled with during our stay in this beautiful country. The "breakfast" was absolutely horrible; my cat would turn her nose at it; and she eats raw liver!

Killarney is definitely Ireland's tourist spot with every other building being some type of B&B or Inn; so one would think that the competition would bring out the best in any of the lodging potentials. Earls did not exhibit any competitive pride.

Drive the Ring of Kerry; it's worth the stay alone. Downtown Killarney is very charming with numerous pubs, good food and quaint shops; too bad Earls does not provide a suitable match.

This hotel was an excellent find. It was a bit off the main road. There was parking, the person that greeted us could not have been nicer. He spent a good deal of time helping us plan our next two days of traveling to the Ring of Kerry and the Dingle Penninsula. He gave us great tips on what to see (Skellig Islands, etc) and where to eat. The breakfast was also very good.

  • Liked — It was very comfortable, the rooms were huge, and the staff was great.
  • Disliked — it was not in the main part of the hotel

We booked the Earl's Court based on the reviews posted here and were disappointed. It is centrally located near downtown and convenient to trips to Dingle Penisula, RIng of Kerry and other Killarney attractions. However, it is more of a hotel than a quaint B&B. While a good breakfast was included, the breakfast room lacks atmosphere. We had to leave very early our last day and they happily started breakfast for us earlier than posted. There are 2 cute sitting areas on the main level, with a computer with internet access available for guests use (and I believe free wireless too). We were not offered any tea or snacks upon arrival, which other posters mentioned in their reviews, but there is a menu with small snacks (including tea, scones, sandwiches) for sale in the sitting room. We had reserved 2 rooms, one triple room and one handicap accessible room. Upon check-in, the handicap room had a very strong odor - possibly mildew, so we asked to be moved and were promptly given another room. The rooms and bathrooms are good size, although they really don't have any decoration and the towels are thin and stiff. Although we had reserved & paid for balcony rooms, our rooms didn't have balconies and overlooked the parking lot. The Earls Court was fine, it was just that we were hoping for something more charming.

This is a thoroughly wonderful place to stay. From the very start, with a cheerful greeting from the owner and very much appreciated tea and cakes in the lounge, we fell in love with Earls Court House Hotel. The room was absolutely gorgeous, furnished with genuine antiques - not just old furniture. The bath was beautiful. The breakfast was amazing. I can't imagine wanting anything in addition to their offerings on the cold buffet combined with a full menu of hot breakfast choices - again in beautiful surroundings. There's a nice big car park - something you don't always get in Killarney. It's a short walk into the center of town - probably about 10 to 12 minutes. This was actually a very good thing after huge (and delicious) dinners at Gaby's and Robertino's.

Great two days spent at Earl's . Wonderful greeting, with thoughtful help for dining and local sites. Very large room on top floor with excellent amenities. Huge bathroom. Wonderful location, eight minutes away from center of Killarney and a good walk after a big meal. Good parking accomodations. Close to National Park and the perfect spot to launch Ring of Kerry tour. Free internet in their comfortable lounge area. Fine breakfast. Will be back!
