Bring your good camera, good walking shoes and a rain jacket. Take a walk in the national park that the pathways start right there at the castle.

Grounds were spectacular. Apparently Queen Victoria stayed here, and we could see why. Gardens were beautiful. We were there in early spring so everything was in bloom.

15th C late medieval castle with central tower almost fully intact. Lots of great crannies and nooks for kids to explore, ducks to feed and great views across the lake with boat trips available. Easy parking, note that loos are situated in castle up some steep steps ! Small cafe and eating area

We rented a horse carriage in town and thoroughly enjoyed Michael and Bella (horse) as we rode through the park and stopped at the Castle. While we did not have time to enter the castle, we took some fun photos on the steps.

the ground of the castle are free and have some of the most beautiful walks and views in the world. you could easily spend the day here if the weather is nice. we took the tour of the castle. it was very interesting, but a word of caution. the lady at reception told me it would be ok to bring my baby as she was in a baby carrier and that my 5 year old would be fine. However, the spiral staircase is very treacherous and the 5 year old tripped at the top of stairs nearly taking me with him. had i not managed to catch him, there is no way he'd have survived the fall. its not suitable for anyone unsteady on their feet, or small children and I certainly wouldnt recommend it with a baby strapped to your front impeding your view of your feet! But for the able-bodied, it was a wonderful tour, well worth the money.
