Beautiful old building. The kids loved being able to walk around and explore multiple rooms and levels. This was the closest our family came to imagining what it was like to live in a building 600 years ago.
An active cemetery encircles much of the abbey. It's a 15 minute walk (or you could pay for a jaunting cart) from Muckross House and one of the highlights of our trip.
There were very few people on a Tuesday, in the early afternoon.

Not much to see there. It is certainly not worth the trouble of taking a horse driven carriage to visit. In general, the drivers of these carriages in the area are unreliable and change prices on the spot if they can get away with it.

This site was so awesome to visit. Rode our rented bikes here, climbed around a bit inside of the Abbey (Very fun) and took many pictures. So much history behind this place and the Graveyard has lots to see and go through. Pay a visit!

My favourite place in Killarney. A short walk from the car park and there it is nestled among the trees. Beautiful abbey, ruined of course, ( I blame Cromwell. I know reviews are not supposed to be personal but in this case the mad Puritan can take the flak) but in good enough condition to explore several floors. Very photogenic and in a reflective moment it is easy to see the monks going about their business. Would be a great place for kids and hide and seek although in this case my wife declined! A wonderful tree grows in the cloister and dominates the central abbey...quite unique. Not many people around and it's free. Some places exceed expectations and this is one.

this was our favorite part of the day, had only planned to walk by but spent over 2 hours walking through the old abbey. if old church ruins are not your thing you may just want to walk by, if they are, then this is the place. enjoyed walking around upper floors and trying imagine the structure as it once looked
