While staying in Dingle my husband and I took a day trip to the Killarney National Park. It is beautiful with no entry fee, free on site parking and large spaces for kids to run around, if necessary. Nice space for a picnic or to go through the Muckross House or Traditional Farms —fee required except for gardens. Otherwise you would need to bring your own entertainment.

Killarney National Park is right next to the town center. First time we visited we walked through and walked to Ross Castle. Next time we visited we rented bikes and biked down several beautiful and scenic paths. Such a wonderful way to spend some time in nature.

We rode through the park on one of the jaunting cars. It was lovely and peaceful and we saw deer and birds, which I really enjoyed.

This trip was a great time to go. We had perfect weather, and all our camping neighbors were quiet and either friendly or unnoticeable. The sites are large with drainage stone on the ground so tent goers might find that a bit uncomfortable. But I was in a tent and found it fine. There are lots of dog owners where we were since we were near the dog beach and my dog absolutely loved it. If you are a photographer then this park offers lots of great opportunities for good shots. The hiking trails nearby are all levels of challenge and of course you have to hike “the crack”. If you don’t like
Bugs this time of year isn’t ideal to go. As he mosquitos and biting flies were pretty numerous. But wear long clothes and bug spray and you will be fine.
If you get to the town of Killarney get the fish and chips ;)
