“Great location very friendly staff”
Reviewed 7 September 2010

We arrived last minute and the welcome was great. the room however was dark and small overlooking a wall and a nosiy extractor fan , we felt a little pricey for this room at 110 euros. The staff were so friendly and nothing too much trouble and as for the breakfast , fit for a king ! The waiting on staff were so helpful and a lovely lady who treated us like we were special. Shame the room let it down . Location wonderful and free parking in nearby car park .

From the moment we arrived we knew this was a very special place .Catherine greeted us with a genuine l warmth and we felt like we had come home. The rooms were very comfortable and we all slept really well.I dont think Id ask to stay in room 213 again as it was dark looking into a wall but it was my choice to stay there as I am a bad sleeper and asked for a quiet room. You cant have it all!!!! The rest of the staff were super too from the young polish girl with the real kerry accent to the friendly night porter...we felt we knew them for years. The food and service was exceptional and there was a lovely ambience in the hotel especially in the foyer.. The Royal reminded me of how hotels used to be before they became modern cold clinical conveyor belts. You really matter in the Royal Well done to all.We WILL be back very soon.

Located only a block from the train station is this great hotel situated on the corner. It was right next to where most all of the shopping and other restaurants are located. The inside is very nice and met our every need. The staff was very helpful and attentive. Our suite on the 3rd floor was so spacious and over-looked the main street. The furnishings and bathroom were very rich. We were so pleased with everything about the hotel. Definitely will stay here on our next trip to Killarney, Ireland.

Our party of 9, in 5 rooms, had a lovely two night stay in Killarney at the Royal. Each room was spotless, nicely sized, and charming. The dining in the main dining room was superb! Fantastic food in the evening, and a lovely and very filling full breakfast each morning.
We would not hesitate to stay again.

Well this will be mine and hubby's 2nd time at the Royal in a year and I can only say that there is something that draws us to Killarney purely for the location, service, friendliness, food and drink that has now become a firm favourite for us at the Royal.

The last time was Christmas 2009 and we vowed to spend our summer holiday in Kerry rather than go abroad solely on the basis of the service at the Royal.

We had 10 days to do the Ring of Kerry and it was great to end it with 3 days at the Royal. We had gone for a package deal 3 nights, 2 dinners based on how good the food was last time and normally we don't go for package deals and glad to say we weren't disapppointed.

We had a junior suite which was so spacious with tv's in the living room space and bedroom space areas although we really only used the bedroom one seeing as the bed was so comfy propped up on the lovely pillows! Saying that, it was great to sit on the sofa relaxing whilst hubby played on the golf putting machine and thought he could equal those at the recent 3Open Golf event..yeah OK..great to keep you amused in the privacy of your own room! I also love the cosiness of the old furniture that makes me feel like it's a home from home.

The bathroom was again spacious and after a walk up Torc Mountain (although I affectionately called it Torture Mountain due to how unfit I was) and having pushed it a bit too much was delighted to have a soak in the bath!

As for service, I think the staff just get better and better. A couple of the staff remembered us from last time and were very friendly, unfortunately we didn't get a chance to say hi to John, the late barman as we were so tired with early starts that we only managed a drink at the bar before going to bed!

Little details too about bringing water and ice during the evening really is a nice touch rather than having to walk to lobbys or ask for room service - oh included was a little chocolate too!

Also Maura and Nuala were so good at advising us about the area and what was best to do seeing as we had wanted to do specific things: Ghost Tour, walks in National Park and Dingle.

The first night on arrival we did the Ghost Tour (5 mins walk away to the bus) and we loved the storytelling. The guy frightened the life out of me 4 times! Thanks to Nuala to advise us to not wear flip flops as the walk around Muckross Abbey off the bus was through stone hallways and steps..very good fun - I'd recommend it to everyone (bear in mind you have to be older than 10 years old and they will advise you of the minimum age..don't want the kiddies getting nightmares, which is great as they could be like some tours and just take your money!

Next day was Torc Mountain and the waterfall was advised - a great walk, steep in parts but I managed it not being the fittest and the surrounding scenery is just gorgeous.

We had thought about going to the Dingle races but didn't have time as we went to the aquarium, brilliant part where you can stroke the stingrays in the tank! Then walking around the various craft places and then a Murphy's ice cream. We didn't have time for dinner but next time will be a trip to Out of The Blue (opens at 5pm weekdays)..the fungi trip will be left until next summertime also but we would highly recommend walking on the Slea Head beach, again the scenery was amazing!

Back to the hotel and the food was delicious: corn feed chicken, rib eye steak, tortellini, duck, really lovely wines too at 27 euros. The staff are so lovely, chatty and as always efficient, nothing is too much trouble and with a smile! Breakfast is varied to pancakes, Irish fry - I had poached eggs and sausages most mornings and they were perfect..the spread really is excellent from smoked salmon, fresh juices, brown bread, cereals - I even noticed gluten free cornflakes!

We still have more places to see so we will be back for a couple of days during the Christmas holidays to see it in a different season!

Thanks to all and we love that nothing has changed as far as service, if anything the new faces to us maintain the great service here.

Love this place - we wouldn't stay anywhere else in Killarney!
Jan and Barry x
