“So close to everything!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2014 via mobile

We stayed here nights 10-12 of 14 in Ireland. It was our jumping off point for Blarney Castle and Dingle. The location was great, easy to find and just off the main road, maybe 10 minutes walk from the train station. The front desk staff was super friendly and helpful. Our room was in a separate building, which I thought could create security issues, but I never saw the outside door being left open. The room was clean and neat. The common areas were average. There is a grocery right across the street with everything you need. Unfortunately, there was construction, to add to the hostel, that started at 8am everyday right outside our window! The shower was great with plenty of pressure and temperature. You can walk 15 minutes to Killarney National Park, which is a bonus! The kitchen was neat and had enough supplies even when many groups were cooking at the same time. Laundry service is available, but at a higher cost because it is full service only, which we would rather pay less and do it ourself, especially because it's hard to explain how you do your laundry.

We stayed here 2 non-consecutive nights, in 2 different double rooms.

First, the double rooms are a bunk bed, on top of a double bed, up against the wall. So one person will be under a bunk where they cannot situp, or get out of bed.

The ceilings are VERY low on the top floor of the building. I'm 6'. It was horrid. My girlfriend is 5'4"... She hit her head repeatedly too. The first night the shower was fine. The second night's shower did not have functioning temperature control, and had widely fluctuating water pressure. Rooms include a desk and closet. Rooms are extremely dusty--If you have a dust allergy Claritin may not be enough (My girlfriend was on it, allergies were still acting up).

The included breakfast is cornflakes.
There is WI-Fi exists on the ground floor. If you get a lower floor room you may have in-room WiFi... maybe., not on the top floor. Communal areas have literature for local hiking and sightseeing opportunities. There is a luggage room available. Staff is willing to store luggage for several days (Which was highly useful to us). Staff is friendly and helpful, willing to make recommendations about local activities.

Definitely not a place to go as a couple/for a double room. If you're backpacking and just want somewhere cheap, it is that, and has friendly staff. If you don't like cornflakes, assume you'll be spending 5+ Euros down the street for a decent breakfast. Location is great. short walk to downtown shops and restaurants. Short walk to Killarney national park.

I've stayed here several times for one night only for the great night life in Killarney. It is a great location for a night out and the price is good if you stay in dorms. On returning home late at night the staff are often rude and a few times we have been given out to for making noise which we felt we were not doing. Still this hasn't stopped us and we have returned as the location is good. Also you can have a few drinks in the common are before heading out.

Friendly staff but appalling condition in private/ ensuite room. The floor had sticky stuff beside bed! Yuck! The sink had mould, as did the walls of the main room. Shower sprays in all directions all over the shower room and with no mat or curtain the water is trailed throughout the rooms. (There are posts requesting water conservation which this shower is definitely not!) Floors were not clean. Bed was worst hostel bed ever, thin and uncomfortable, mattress is too small for the bed frame. Pillows coarse. Dirty towels given (full of other people's hair!). Grateful for the loan of a baby's cot but very wary that cot was unclean (with all else unclean). So glad we brought a baby sleeping bag. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! This is my first review ever though I've stayed extensively in hostels all over the world. I feel compelled to write it as other "good" reviews swayed us into staying here. Not value for money!!

Hostel staff were very friendly and able to answer all our questions and assist us setting up tours. Very clean, showers nice and hot, and good strong coffee. Bed a bit stiff for my personal likeing but not a bad nights sleep.

Only stayed here for a night as part of a Shamrock tour. Stayed in a 6 person dorm which was clean and spacious enough for what we needed for a night. Didn't really see much of the hostel to be honest as we dropped our things of and then went out drinking and were gone the next morning. The staff seemed friendly enough, wasn't too expensive, not a bad nights sleep, pretty much your average hostel for me. If people were thinking of staying here I would say "go for it".

the staff were very courteous and managed to put the four of us, me and three friends, in the same bedroom. The bedroom was very clean. The kitchen and a living room are very nice because you are able to use. The environment was very nice. Breakfast was included. The staff have a good knowledge about the National Park and all entertainment around.
