“Nice Place, Shame about the Sausages!”
Reviewed 26 July 2012

Glitzy to the point of being hilarious (the marble staircase displays spectacularly vulgar delusions of grandeur that I just love) and with android like eastern European staff and breakfast sausages of similarly dubious quality you might think this won't be great - but it is.

Centrally located in the town with an underground private car park, an indoor pool, spa and sauna its a fab destination after a long day out sightseeing.

Basic rooms are just that, but the higher end is great and they do good short break deals.

Its nothing like traditional Irish Hospitality - B and B's are far better for that, but for facilities and pampering and a location just seconds from the centre of town with parking its hard to beat.

Fair number of noisy kids zooming around, so not a romantic retreat.

Something about it though - an oasis of calm and luxury and brilliantly OTT decor that always is a hoot - I keep coming back.. Truth is I love it.

Room Tip: Higher spec room a lot nicer - try to blag one at reception.

Stayed here for 1 night as we arrived in Killarney a night early and needed to stay 1 night before we went to our intended hotel.
To start with things didn't go well.. We found the hotel, but there was nowhere to park up and find out about parking or allowing us to check in. Found a car park round the back which is paid parking so we parked up there and walked the length of the hotel to go around to the front and check in. At that point I asked about parking and was informed of the residental parking that I could access from the rear - "just press the button". I immediately left, returned to the car and then had to wait for a recycling truck to unblock the entrance. From the moment I started to walk down the side of the building not 1 car entered the parking garage, and 1 left just as the truck left. So in I went - rang the button only to be informed by the receptionist at the other end that the car park was full!!! what the hell!. I only asked less than 5mins previously and no-one had entered, and 1 had left but it was full.. Was more than a little annoyed, and having to try and reverse out of that entrance isn't the easiest - particularly when there are cars waiting behind you to simply find out the same things..
We eventually got up to the room. They are small! We had a double which was 2 single beds pushed together with about 6ft of space left between left and right walls. That said, it was clean, and very well presented. The bed was extremely comfortable and had a good nights sleep, and my wife loved the toiletries left in the bathroom. All in all, a pretty good room.
The next issue came with the wifi.. I couldn't connect as my laptop kept informing me that the router was new and unconfigured - do I wish to configure it.... I phoned reception to be informed some guests had complained and their IT guy (this was about 6pm) was looking in to it. I tried about 10pm and still nothing. I asked again in the morning as we checked out only to be informed that there is an issue with getting internet in to the hotel at source, and that it might be a few weeks before they get it resolved - you have been warned!!!!
Breakfast was included so we went down.. And it's very good. Great selection of pastries, fruit and of course the full irish breakfast.
Overall the room was pretty good - just let down by lack of foresight by the reception staff about parking, and no wifi. Despite these, I can't ding them too much as generally the staff were helpful, and the hotel overall is quite good.

Had a very pleasant stay in the Plaza. Staff were very helpful, rooms comfortable. Spa and bar were real treats, tastefully designed. The central location of hotel is a real asset. Will definitely return.

Stayed for 2 nights here. Excellent location in the centre of Killarney with free car parking which can be hard to find in Killarney. Staff are magnificant being helpful throughout the hotel. Stainglass feature over the staircase is stunning entrance to the hotel after strange route from the car park to reception. Decor and ambience of hotel all excellent. Did not have time to visit spa as this hotel is well placed for all Killarney visitor attractions and restaurants and just ran out of time... will just have to go back!

The staff at Killarney Plaza was incredibly friendly and caring! When I stayed there in July 2012 with my husband and our two kids, we had to resolve an issue with our flights when our airline changed them unexpectedly. The reception desk staff went out of their way to help us every step of the way -- even though the issue didn't involve the hotel -- and they followed up to make sure all was resolved. They were more helpful than any other hotel staff we'd ever encountered, treating us as well as someone would a family member or close friend.

Also, the hotel itself was elegantly beautiful and well-located: We could easily walk to wherever we wanted to go. The breakfast was delicious and extensive.

Simply put, if you're going to Killarney, I can't imagine any better place to stay then the Killarney Plaza!

We stayed at the Killarney Plaza for three nights and could not fault the room or the service. The location is excellent, right in the middle of Killarney with free parking. Everyone on reception and in the bar went out of their way to be helpful. We hope to stay at the Plaza on our next trip to Killarney

We stayed in Killarney Plaza for 2 nights in the month of May 2012. The hotel location is excellent and the ride to ring of kerry was magnificient. Killarney plaza is right in the heart of killarney. The Indian restaurant is nearby. The service quality and breakfast here were excellent. The staff here are very hospitable and this is a very well managed hotels. The rooms were very spacious and the lobby is excellent. The staff, rooms and service make this hotel a memorable one for us.

Room Tip: Any room should be good here
