“Wonderful Stay”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

Spent a fabulous birthday weekend here at this hotel. Had a beautiful executive room. The staff were lovely and the food in each restaurant couldn't be faulted. Fantastic location in the heart of the city. The pool was lovely and refreshing after a walking all day. Would highly recommend it, whether for a romantic getaway, a stop enroute to Ring of Kerry, or for a family trip. Suitable for everyone.

Room Tip: Book an executive room, well worth it.

We stayed two nights at Killarney Plaza and could not wait to check out! The food was absolutely revolting and the service was even worse. The waitstaff practically threw silverware at us when we arrived for breakfast the second morning. My sheets were not changed between nights one and two. Location is great, so if you're not planning on eating or sleeping then go for it!

Killarney Plaza Hotel is a grand, full service hotel and spa in the heart of Historic Killarney. The Hotel is within walking distance of shops, restaurants and the beautiful St Mary's Cathedral. Don't miss the Jaunting carts available across the street to take you for a ride through the National Park. A day trip to the Ring of Kerry nearby is also a must. We didn't use the spa but did have a great time in the bar/lounge listening to live music.

This hotel was another in our tour of Ireland, and what a surprise. A friendly grand hotel in a classic style. Upon arriving and parking we realized that we had not eaten as our trip from Cork took a little longer than anticipated. I phoned the desk and was offered freshly made sandwiches of our choice and drinks, wow, was that appreciated. Once again the staff were outstanding and food delicious. We will be back. The location of this fine hotel is right in the heart of restaurants and bars, perfect.

Killarney is a beautiful old town with plenty of shops, restaurants and a lively nightlife that is very pedestrian friendly.

Killarney Plaza Hotel is an upscale hotel that has premium bedding, large comfortable rooms and great room service. Definitely one of the nicer places to stay in Killarney, I really loved all of the shopping and the friendly locals that were always willing to recommend where to eat or have a drink.

Room Tip: We were on the side of the building where there is a round-a-bout in the road and we could hear plen...

Just stayed here for 1 night, last Friday night. Booked an executive room - it was a large room but nothing special about it, rather dull. Bathroom was very small, shower in the bath and the thing I hate most - a shower curtain, bath was extremely slippy so had to use bath mat provided which I hate doing. Otherwise room was very clean, very comfortable bed with the usual hotel supplies. We were woken quite early by the people across the hall chatting to their friend, it sounded like they were actually in our room. The rooms are plenty big to put in an additional door to sound proof the room to some degree.
Had dinner in the restaurant. Was very busy when we went in and after getting out menus we had to wait at least 15 minutes to give our order but the staff were extremely nice. Food was good except for my husbands steak whick was suppose to be medium but was really well done and very dry. Very nice waiter and waitress attended to us, neither of them were Irish.
There was a singer in the bar that had a great voice but my goodness, was he loud. Even in the restaurant we thought he was too loud so you can imagine what it was like in the bar - crazy loud.
Breakfast was the usual fare. Had to wait for them to clear tables - maybe not a bad idea just to have someone continually doing this. Breakfast was over at 10am which I think is too early for weekend. We were down about 9.30am and a lot of people came after us.
It is a nice hotel but for what we paid especially for the upgrade to an executive room I dont know if I would do it again, there are nicer hotels that are better value. If I stayed again I would get a regular room. Overall I would still recommend. Also the parking lot has to be seen to be believed, to say it is a tight squeeze is an understatement but at least they have parking on site which a lot of other hotels I have stayed at in Killarney do not.

Room Tip: We had executive room on the first floor facing the road which was fine, the noise comes from the ha...

I stayed here for two nights as part of a tour. The hotel itself is in a great location, step right outside and many shops, pubs, and restaurants are at your doorstep.

The interior of the hotel is okay. It would certainly benefit from some updating -- thick rugs, gold walls, lots of dark wood....everything just seems so....heavy. The decor seemed quite out of place in a hotel at the end of busy city streets.

The service in the dining room was just horrible! Chaotic, long wait times, rude and disinterested staff. The food was the worst we had at any of the hotels we stayed in. Dinner service was completely disorganized -- one person took half the tables orders, walked away. Someone else comes and takes drink orders. Someone else comes to fill two water glasses only to realize their pitcher is empty. Someone else comes to bring a salad. Someone else comes to clear one salad plate, then get distracted by something else. And so on. It took over 20 minutes to get water refilled. After waiting about that long for coffee, someone from our party just got up and took a pot from the stand where it was being kept.

I agree with another reviewer that the hotel seems to cater mainly to large tour groups. There were at least 4 big groups, including ours, during our stay here. The problem with this is that it's easy to provide poor service, have outdated decor, etc, because it's unlikely people from the tours will be back again, voice lots of complaints to the tour company, etc. It almost makes it easier to get away with being "meh," which sums up my feelings on the hotel pretty accurately.
