“Clean, comfortable, convenient B&B... Wonderful hostess”
Reviewed 24 August 2013

This was THE best B&B we visited in Ireland. Why? Because Ann, the hostess, went out of her way to ensure that we had everything we needed. (Trust me, this woman deserves special recognition for the number of questions she answered and the requests she fulfilled during our stay.) The lodge was attractively decorated. Our room was clean and comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious. We were able to walk into town to visit pubs, shops, and restaurants. The lodge is close to many sights, including the Ring of Kerry, the Dingle Peninsula, and Killarney National Park. The Kingfisher Lodge wasn't the fanciest or most expensive B&B we stayed at... but it was the nicest.

Me and my wife stayed at the Kingfisher Lodge for 9 nights in July and it was a pleasure from beginning to end. Our room was comfortable, always clean and reasonably sized with a spacious wardrobe. The bathroom was fine with a good shower system. Parking was never a problem at Kingfisher Lodge and being only a 5 minute walk from Killarney centre was great! Ann and Donal are lovely hosts, so anything we needed we only had to ask and they would always be ready to help. Breakfast is quite abundant and good......we never got hungry before 3pm after having breakfast at the Lodge. But the cherry on the cake were the two lovely dogs, Jazz and Bronagh that reside with the owners, especially Jazz the female labrador who is very playful!! The only thing that could have been a bit better was the mattress but we got used to it after the second night.

This B&B is only 10 minute walk to Killarney town center. This was our second B&B. We were not met graciously at the door, rooms were not ready even though we arrived at 3 pm an hour after the early arrival time. No tea, coffee, or snacks were given. We had to hunt for our rooms. No advice on the local area was volunteered unless we asked. Breakfast was good but a hectic affair. Door to house was never locked until late at night. Lights in hallway were turned off during the night. Owners have dogs which my friend liked. Beds were good and rooms were small but clean.

Room Tip: Don't take room 3 because it is very small

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at our Guesthouse., we appreciate all feedback in order to maintain our high standards . Donal and I are indeed very surprised that you were disappointed with your stay with us.

We are a GUESTHOUSE and provide quality Bed and Breakfast accommodation where, as owners we aim to offer unobtrusive attention in a unique environment , we do not strive to be a HOTEL or a quaint 4/6 bedroomed bed and breakfast. we are always on hand to advise our guests as is evident from the numerous reviews we have received in our 14 years in business.

We do indeed remember your party and you actually stayed in room 2 and 21. Both of these rooms are queen and we are constantly complimented on their classic decor and quality we have never been told that either of them are small. indeed Room 21 is a spacious room with its own table and armchairs.. All of our rooms are of a 4 * standard size .
Our rooms offer tea/coffee trays with biscuits which a lot of hotels and bed and breakfast do not ,these are fully stocked daily for your enjoyment.
We offer check in from 2pm (which in ireland is early) most places are 4pm .Guests very rarely want to check in before 4pm , As you can appreciate all our rooms cannot be ready at exactly 2pm but we would have been happy to have yours ready first if you had requested beforehand, indeed you can drop off luggage from 10am in the morning and go sightseeing if you wish.. We do not like to rush housekeeping as we want all our rooms completed perfectly.

On check in as we only have 10 rooms we either show you to your room or give exact direction so really we cannot understand how you could have had a problem to find your rooms. We always offer a town map and mark where we are and offer suggestions for restaurants and sightseeing entertainment etc 95% of the time on check in , and in the 5% later that day. We also have literature on the area and give out maps etc to each room as well as a comprehensive information brochure in your room .. Our sitting room has lots of lovely books magazines etc available to guests in a quiet relaxing environment.
Our front door is closed and unlocked until 11pm as we live onsite .each room has their own set of keys to enter as they wish ,.at 11 we lock the door and turn off all the large lights ,all the emergency lighting is then available to light the corridors. We do not needlessly wish to leave lights on in hallways through out the night when all our guests are asleep as we try to be as environmentally friendly as possible.
Breakfast service is provided by our very friendly staff and yes it can be a lively affair but we are constantly complimented on this and on our dining room setting , efficiency and variety of buffet and freshly cooked to order food. Surely it is a good sign of a business that they are busy , I personally would much prefer to stay somewhere that is so .
I hope that you will return to Ireland in the future.

We have to share our review of this place with others as it truly is such a special find. The lodge is immaculate, well decorated and quiet. The owners are friendly and extremely helpful, as we were not sure what exactly we wanted to do with sights and attractions. Donal quickly helped us figure it out. We noticed right away the attention to little details in this special place. The rooms have all the things you would hope for in a lodge stay and more...even down to the little pretty teacups. It is also a great place to stay as it is close to town, but not too close in terms of noise. Breakfast was the best we had during our stay in England and Ireland as well. I truly cannot think of a single thing I did not like about the Kingfisher. Killarney has many things to do for all. If you go and if you are lucky enough, you might find yourself at this outstanding lodge. PS- one little secret, if you order the porridge, which is not on the menu, it comes with a little surprise, which we loved. Also view of the lovely garden in back from the breakfast table was lovely as well.

Kingfisher Lodge is a gem. Beautiful decor, large rooms, comfy beds, and good food. Ann was amazing. If you want something, just ask -- Ann will get it, or coordinate it, for you. I don't think there was anything she couldn't provide. Dinner reservations, done . Sightseeing tours/bookings, done. Laundry service, done. My daughter loved petting the friendly dogs out back. I wish we had spent more time here and I wish I had gotten her recipe for pancakes, yum.

We could not have been happier. We are two couples traveling together without a car, spending 6 nights in Killarney at the Kingfisher. Ann and Donal were just wonderful hosts. Always willing to answer questions, offer advice or coordinate a day tour. The other members of the staff were just as friendly, always helpful with a smile. Rooms are large, very clean and the lodge is a very easy walk into the heart of Killarney, so getting to Pubs, restaurants was very easy.
