Reviewed 9 January 2014

We were greeted by Eileen (a fellow Nurse!) and she made us feel like family right away! Our first night in Ireland was like all of our dreams of the Island! We could not of imagined anything better! We will certainly return and stay for much longer! Thank you for your gracious accommodations!

After staying in several large and busy hotels throughout Ireland, it was such a treat to be met with a warm welcome by Eileen and her family at Carriglea. This B&B has a wonderful and colorful history but has all the modern amenities for a very comfortable stay and unlike some B&Bs in which you feel like you are essentially renting a room in someone's house, Carriglea feels like a cozy and comfortable inn. Great location close to a national park that is very convenient for early morning or early evening walks. Also conveniently located close to all the attractions around Killarney with plenty of restaurants and shops within easy walking distance. Eileen is a wonderful resource for information and suggestions for things to do and see. We stayed for 3 nights and will positively return again on our next visit. My favorite memory was taking the family for a horse-drawn carriage ride up and around the mountains that surround the Lakes of Killarney. At the top lake, we got in a small boat for a very long and leisurely trip through the Lakes which was very pleasant until the wind changed and we found ourselves battered and windswept and nearly capsized into the Lake! Classic Irish tourist adventure! We made it back to Carriglea and Eileen met us with towels and warm whisky toddies and hot chocolate for the kids and we laughed until we cried in the living room of the farmhouse. My 82 year old mother tells the story to everyone she meets. Carriglea House is a genuine treat - delicious breakfasts, warm hosts, comfortable accommodations and great location. Pass up the expensive and impersonal hotels and stay here.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights during our recent holiday in Ireland. We wish we had booked more time in this wonderful place! This house is beautiful. The accommodations are cozy. It is centrally located to all of the main attractions in Killarney - close to the town centre with restaurants and shopping and right across the street from the Killarney National Park. You can take a leisurely stroll down the street to hire cycles and cycle through the national park. The people are warm and inviting. The breakfast is delicious. We loved Eileen, the innkeeper. She was very helpful in helping us plan our time in Killarney - providing directions and ideas. We will definitely return to this place, which we have decided to claim as our Irish home. :)

We loved this B&B. We stayed in a suite in the old carriage house, and it was extremely comfortable. The views of the lake, the Killarney forest and the front garden of the house were stunning. Eileen was extremely welcoming, and was a wealth of knowledge about where to go, and how to get there. It was lovely walking around the farm, and it was just across the road from the Killarney National forest, so you could actually walk there, as well as to the Muckross House, Ross Castle, etc. The room was very quiet and comfortable. We just wish we could have stayed for longer! Eileen's pancake breakfast was awesome!

Room Tip: I only saw the rooms in the carriage house, and they were all gorgeous. They all faced the front of...

The Carriglea B&B is pretty much the first building you see on the right coming out of the national park. It is an old building, well maintained and with lots of character. Our room was large and sunny with excellent facilities. Breakfast was also great. The owners live on site and were extremely welcoming and provided lots of information. If you are happy to walk it is 20-30 minutes walk to Muckross House and gardens. The national park is about 2 minutes away. The INEC centre is about 15 minted walk the other way and if you are lucky there may be a show on - we saw Lord of the Dance - fantastic. The only drawback is that you would need to drive into town which is about 5-10 minutes

Ideal accommodation for trips around the three peninsulars in SW Ireland: Dingle (best one); Kerry (a bit busy); and Beara (excellent).
The house is quite historic and is adjacent to a working farm. There's a horse and a donkey near the house but there was not a peep from them - unusual for donkeys!
Very quiet house, probably because the walls were very solid and thick.
Lots of local knowledge on arrival from Eileen - most welcome.

Carriglea House is a wonderful Victorian charmer full of history and comfortable elegance.
We were a bit tardy arriving after a traffic hang up about an hour away but we were able to call ahead to alert them. Eileen was just a ring away when we did finally arrive and was just wonderful about all the things we could do from their home in a variety of different directions. first thing was we must go get something for supper since we hadn't eaten before arriving and some of the establishments stop serving food about 9pm. There was a place just a couple minutes drive that was perfect for what we needed that evening.
The view from the front porch of Carriglea House was spectacular across the lake, we were able to see that better the next morning as we ventured off on the first excursion.
Breakfast was impressive and Eileen's brown bread delicious!
The gardens and roses were beautiful and the fairy ring intriguing. I made quick friends with Paddy the donkey ,he was a love.
Our room and bath was large and very clean and tidy, beds very comfy and we stayed two nights with the John and Eileen.
Would return tomorrow if I could!
Thanks for making a wonderful addition to our first trip to Ireland!
