We walked from Killarney to here on our first day of the Kerry way. We got there just on time before the rain and settled into our cosy room. My partner was delighted with her chicken meal and I enjoyed the pork.
it a lovely location and the owners Mary and Robert are very helpful.

Robert and Mary seemed tired. They said they've been doing this for 30-something years and didn't have the warm, friendly personalities of some of the others who hosted us in their B&Bs (but they were, by no means, rude; just to the point). The room was spacious and comfortable. Since we hiked from town to town, we had no form of transportation to get to a place to eat, so we had no choice but to pay the 26 euro per person for a homecooked dinner--don't get me wrong, the nice hot meal tasted quite good after walking in the wind and rain all day, but a sliced chicken breast with gravy, steamed green beans and carrots, and riced potatoes should NOT have cost what it did. I guess it is a business and they do what they have to do. At least the meal was tasty. Breakfast, however, was a typical, good hearty irish B&B breakfast--no complains there. Overall, average.

Hillcrest is a lovely farmhouse b&b in the middle of nowhere. I see people have commented on the location, I love the fact that it is in the wilderness. I have to say that the website does state that its location is in the heart of the lakes and mountains and it even provides a map of its location, so I wouldn't hold the fact that people don't research their trip properly against the Tangney's.
We arrived on a miserable evening and were warmly welcomed by Robert who showed us to our rooms and offered us an evening meal. Mary was busy cooking away for another group who had arrived earlier. We had sandwiches and tea and then settled down for a good nights sleep. The following morning the rain had disappeared and we were greeted with a beautiful site of mountains and blue sky. We walked from the b&b into the Black Valley which was a total of 8.5 miles round trip and it was glorious. You can even walk to the Gap of Dunloe and then get a jaunting car back from Kate Kearney's Cottage, lovely. Lord Brandon's cottage is a short way down the road and you can get a boat trip over to Killarney, they also have a cafe.
The b&b is right on the Kerry way, so is ideal for walkers.
On one of our walks we returned to the farmhouse mid afternoon and were greeted with scones and tea.
Mary and Robert work really hard, as for the 5 nights we were there they had one nighters every night who were doing the Kerry way.
This is a delightful olde world B&B with no airs and graces which you find with many who are new to the business.
I'd recommend a stay here if you like seclusion, the outdoors, peace and quiet and if you don't mind a 9k drive across back roads.

Stayed here for two nights. Really welcoming and warm atmosphere. Nice rooms and excellent food. The surronding area is amonst the most scenic we have ever visited. Great base for walking excursions and sight seeing.. Highly reccomend a visit and we look forward to returning some day.

Hillcrest Farmhouse really is in the middle of nowhere, about 7km down a hill track. We thought we had missed it in the mist but did eventually find it. Robert & Mary Tangney were welcoming and offered us an evening meal. Considering the distance back out to anywhere this was most welcome. We had a nice 3 course meal and coffee for 25 EUR. The room was small but comfortable.

This Farmhouse caters more for walkers than cars and is an ideal stop for walkers. Robert & Mary seemed very knowledgably about the area and gave good directions to all their guests.

The surrounding land is very beautiful.
