“Top hotel for a stay in Killarney”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

Stayed here for 3 nights to coincide with a wedding we were attending in the hotel. The hotel was really nice, tastefully decorated with very pleasant and accommodating staff. The hotel is very centrally located, as close as you can get to all the hustle and bustle that Killarney has to offer.

The only reason that I didn’t give five stars was because the room we stayed in (351) was in need of a complete refurbishment. I did notice while walking past the room directly across from ours was recently decorated and looks very nice in comparison to ours. That was my only complaint. Food was excellent and the pints of Guinness were second to none.

Room Tip: Don't stay in room 351. Ask for a newly decorated room.

We arrived in Killarney at The Malton after a 2 hour trip from Ennis. The location is splendid as it is off the main touristy parts of Killarney but easily walkable to those same main streets. The front desk staff was so helpful and as they had a large tour group just checking out so our rooms were not yet ready, they offered options for us to park our car and tour the city. We were not disappointed when we returned. The room for our three sons was an excellent size and they loved watching the crows strut about in the courtyard outside their windows. Our room contained a king size bed and lovely grey and mauve décor that was relaxing and plush. A huge sofa allowed us to stretch out and relax after a day wandering in Killarney and Muckross House.
Sharon at the front desk was so helpful as we asked about places to go in the area. She really spent time helping us analyze the area and gave us terrific directions along with the maps to help us find our way.
The breakfast was extraordinary with the best waffles we have ever had. If I could get the recipe, I would quit my day job and open a Malton Waffle House in the States!
Nora at the main dining room ran the operation like a general marshaling her troops and nothing was amiss or out of place. Beautiful dining room with high ceilings and windows that enhanced the décor and majesty of the room. The tables dressed with fine linens, china and silverware that made us all feel like royalty.
The boys enjoyed the pool area and splashed like dolphins. Our eldest son made excellent friends with the bar staff who spent time explaining the attributes of the different liquors. The bar itself is large and lovely to sit at and chat with whomever sits next to you. A great spot to meet folks from all over the world. We did not eat dinner at the hotel as there are many excellent restaurants within walking distance. I am sad I did not get to experience the Wine Vault. Maybe next time!

My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights, staying in one of their deluxe rooms we could not have asked for more. From the entrance to the hotel to the bedroom, the entire hotel was beautiful. Staff were extremely polite and helpful at all times, and the receptionists are a credit to the hotel. Breakfast both mornings was very impressive, with a fine selection of fruits, cereals, pastries, meats and cheeses alongside a delicious hot breakfast menu. Our evening meal in The Garden Room Restaurant was absolutely delicious, it is obvious that a lot of thought and effort has been put into both the creation of the menu and the presentation of the food. The leisure facilities were also spotless and enjoyable to use . Overall it was a fantastic stay, and I would happily recommend the hotel.

Dear Shauna, I am delighted you & your boyfriend enjoyed your 2 night stay with us & thank you for taking the time to reivew us on tripadvisor. Our executive chef Stephen O'Learys food philosphy is "Creative Cuisine, Classically Influenced", using the best of local produce from local suppliers and artisan food producers & it's always great to hear when our guests appreciated his efforts. Also thank you for mentioning our reception team, our staff are truly our greatest asset. Hope to welcome you both back again, Warmest Regards, Jennifer Egan, Digital Marketing Manager

really great stay and must mention the staff for being very attentive. Only fault was an over bearing number of signs saying what not to do and what management would not tolerate - this class of hotel should be above that.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for you kind words about The Malton Hotel during your mini break and I will ensure that all staff are aware. I am a little confused on the signage issue that you mentioned and would love some feedback from you on this subject. We currently display appropriate signage in both carparks attached to the hotel and in our gardens which help to ensure our customers have an enjoyable and comfortable experience .
Looking forward to welcoming you back to the Malton in the future.

Everything was fine as we arrived to the hotel. Nice looking property on the outside, reception, seating rooms, restaurant and bar. The disappointment came as we entered the room and realized that the furnishings and bathroom needed a complete renovation. The bathroom was old with a tub that had the porcelain chipped in many places, leaky faucets difficult to work and above all "NO HEAT". a call to reception did not do much as the heat was not turn on the room all day. The room size was small for a 4* hotel.
The next day the heat was turned on for a few hours but turn off again.
Breakfast food was good but as for dinner it was not.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your recent review on the Malton Hotel, I am very disappointment that your stay was not as enjoyable as it should have been and I would like to apologise to you both . I have spoken to my colleagues in the restaurant and in the accommodation department and we have discussed your comments at length. We will monitor the heating timer in the hotel as it currently operates during the period that guests are in the hotel and when the temperatures are low outside.
We have invested in a large portion of the hotels bedrooms over the last five years and will continue to invest in the bedroom product over the coming years including 2014 to improve the choice of bedrooms for all guests that stay at the Malton.
I would have been delighted to have spoken to you in person during your stay and have been in a position to have solved some of your concerns and I would encourage you to contact me when next in Killarney as I would be delighted to meet and chat about your stay.
I do hope to see you return to the Malton in the future.
Please feel free to contact me directly,

I booked the Malton as a gift for my parents 50th Wedding anniversary and joined them on their trip to act as chauffeur for them for the weekend. We visited the hotel during the Rally of the Lakes and although the town was absolutely heaving there was a lovely calmness when you came through th doors of the Malton.

My parents were upgraded to a Junior Suite by the hotel which was a lovely surprise for them. Both our rooms were situated in the old part of the hotel so the rooms were really large and very opulent. The Hotel also left a greeting card, box of chocolates and a fruit bowel for them in their room which was a very nice touch.

We had dinner in the hotel on the two nights that we stayed one night we ate in the restaurant and the next night we ate in the bar and both meals were extremely good with generous portions. The breakfast was the best I have seen in recent years. There was a buffet with everything from Cereals, juices and yogurts to smoked salmon and trout and then you ordered your hot food from a menu and this was served by the very efficient waitresses. The hot food menu included your normal Full Irish, Kippers, Poached Eggs serviced on muffins, Pancakes and Waffles.

Every member of staff that I came across in the Malton was friendly, efficient and really could not do enough for you. They all seem to be trained to the same high standard.

Please keep doing what your doing, Ireland needs more hotels like the Malton.
