“Beautiful old hotel”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

I recently stayed at The Malton Hotel for two nights. The building (outside & inside) is absolutely beautiful! I spent quite a bit of time just exploring the various rooms and decor. There was a quiet reading room as well as multiple sitting areas. We had a room down a quiet hallway on the 4th floor. I know there were other people staying in the rooms around us, however, we could not hear them at all. Our room was good sized and well-appointed with two twin beds, a large window, a small table with two chairs, a large desk with a chair, a large armoire, and an older television on a stand. The bathroom was large with a lot of sink & counter space. (This hotel does not have air conditioning, however, our room did have a fan. We did not need it because it was cool enough outside that opening the window was perfect.) The breakfast each morning was served in a large dining room. It included a variety of cold items (cereals, fruit, pastries, sandwiches, yogurt) and hot items (available for order off of the menu). The service in the dining room was excellent. The concierge was able to provide an information sheet about the hotel's history -- very interesting!

I would definitely recommend this hotel and would love to have stayed here longer.

My partner and I stayed here recently for a wedding. Receptionists were absolutely excellent and catered for our every need (Amie and Sharon are two names that stayed with me). The room was pristine and spacious (granted, we booked a junior suite).

The only gripe we had was the waiting staff for the wedding--two young women who not once spoke to us, not even a solitary 'thank you' or 'you're welcome'. I do not think that is too much to ask. In the end, I got sick of arranging emptied plates to help them with the clear-up as it meant nothing to them. Outside of that, flawless.

Myself and my husband arrived on the 22nd of June, prior to arrival my husband had requested a quite room. However on arrival we were placed into a room facing onto a fair ground which was anything but quiet. To get away from the room we went out for a couple of hours but by 7pm that evening, I came to realisation that I would not be getting any rest in this room so we approached the reception and the room was changed. But I felt that the day was wasted and I was very upset. The next afternoon whilst I was lying down asleep the phone rang to ask could an interior designer come and measure up the room. This was totally inappropriate. At that stage I wanted to leave the hotel. I had anticipated a nice quiet relaxing anniversary and to date it was the worst anniversary I've had. I recently had surgery and that was the reason my husband had emphasized we needed a quiet room, so I am notably disappointed.

Room Tip: Note to receptionist: When somebody asks for a quiet room and you hand them a key to a room facing a...

I really enjoyed this hotel.

You are beside a small shopping mall. You are 5 minute walk to the Main Street with more shops and pubs.

The hotel has a bar off the lobby. The restaurant for dinner is ala carte. For breakfast there is continental buffet and choices for a hot meal. Service is excellent.

Rooms are a fair sizes, clean with nice windows with bath and shower. There is a hair dryer no safety deposit boxes in the rooms. This is a large hotel with lots of rooms finding your room can vie confusing. This hotel is pretty quiet, no street noises and drunks in the middle of the night.

For valuables you can leave them with the front desk. They put it in a sealed envelope and kept in the hotel safe. I had a large sum of money and I was comfortable with this arrangement.

The staff is very friendly and helpful.

I recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the garden is quiet and view is peaceful.

Just returned from a 3 night break in The Malton. My wife and I loved it, from our first contact with Reception until the moment we left. The staff are brilliant especially those in the Garden Room ( a special thanks to Daniela from Slovakia ! ) The whole hotel exudes an atmosphere of down to earth Irish hospitality without pretensions.Food was lovely, Punchbowl Bar was comfortable with quick, friendly service. Reception was efficient. Room was spacious and comfy. We'll be back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Malton.

First sight of the hotel impressed us for its quaint appearance. The check in was smooth & very cordial. It was raining when we arrived, but we were helped by the staff to move our luggage when the rain diminished a bit. When we entered the room allotted, we were blown away. One entered the study with large cupboards & study table - quite spacious. The Bedroom was large with large bay windows overlooking the garden. The toilet block had separate sections for wash basins-2, WC & shower area. Very tastefully done. The tapestry & the linen was beautiful. Overall it was a very comfortable room. The breakfast which was included was sumptuous & staff only too eager to help out with whatever was required. We spent 2 nights in the Hotel, wish we could have spent some more time.

Room Tip: Try to get the rooms with 2 sides open for a better view
