The Malton hotel upon walking in is absolutely gorgeous, the lobby is very modern and nice but as you make your way to your room, you will notice the history of the hotel. It was built years ago and I like the character but I feel the rooms could be updated a bit. The ceiling in the room where dinner and breakfast is served was gorgeous. The history the hotel has is very interesting. We stayed here for two nights with a large group of us who ran the Dublin half and toured Ireland, they were very accommodating and had our rooms, room keys waiting for us as soon as we entered the lobby. The hallways were rather noisy, there were A LOT of children staying at this hotel which I am sure has something to do with the hotel offering child care at dinner time, these kids were rather loud and at times you could hear them in your room. Other than that, I don't have many complaints and would recommend staying here. It's walking distance to everything you would want to see in Killarny.

Dear Katy, Many thanks for your comments & always nice to hear a guest appreciate this hotels 160 year old history. We have a large variety of bedrooms from your traditional Victorian style to a more contemporary style of today to suit different tastes & preferences & are currently undergoing a refurbishment program and happy to report many are now complete. We do run family fun programmes during school holidays which are of course very popular with our 'little guests' & have supervised playrooms during the evenings to allow parents have some quite time while dining. My apologies that the children disturbed you during your stay. Thank you for recommending us to others & I hope we welcome you back again if you return to Killarney some day. Warmest Regards, Mary Evans, Front of House Manager

Stayed in the self catering apartments for a week and one night in the hotel. Apartment was brilliant, spotlessly clean and very well presented would definitely recommend. Hotel room was just as good. Only downside was the food, both in the bar and restaurant, not a great choice and very poor selection for children. Staff were absolutely brilliant from start to finish of stay.

Dear Sean, Thank you so much for your review, delighted you & your family enjoyed your stay with us. I was dissappointed to hear your comments re our menu choices but I will address with our Executive Chef. Our menus change regularly according to what's in season & people tastes/preferences etc e.g. our award winning garden room restaurant menu changes 2 times each week and consists of 7 starter, 7 main & 7 dessert choices. We do hope to welcome you back again in the future and until then do take care, Best Regards, Paul O'Sullivan, Deputy General Manager

my mother -in-law and I booked a room for two days in this quaint hotel and I have to say we had a most enjoyable couple of days. The bedroom was comfortable, nothing spectacular but the beds were extremely comfortable and the room was very spacious. We had dinner in the restaurant the first evening and the service and food was second to none. The ambience was fabulous and the staff just 'glided along ' , efficiently and every so smoothly. They were so friendly and nothing seemed to be a problem to them . We were lucky that the 'Fleadh' was on the Sunday night and the atmosphere around the town was electric. The hotel décor was very tastefully done and first impressions on the hotel was very inviting and welcoming .

We spent two nights at this hotel and had a very good experience. The suite was roomy with very nice decor and gorgeous views of the grounds. It was comfortable and clean.

The bar was pretty good; service was good but just a bit slow at times. Otherwise, we were very happy with our drinks and dinner.

We enjoyed our stay very much and would stay there again.

What a gem, in the jewel town get is Killarney. Just returned from a two night stay.
Wonderful hotel, splendid Victorian era or earlier decor that creates a splendid ambience of relaxation and happiness.
Our room for 2 adults and 1 child was very spacious, modern, beautiful elegant decor, very roomy bathroom with bathtub and shower. Very comfortable, and overlooked a fabulous old tree that was floodlight at night. So romantic.
Breakfast was silver service in the Lake Dining Room. Great choice of lovely fresh food again the buffet, and menu to order the hot food from the waitress. Very, very tasty.
At night time, The Punchbowl Bar served lovely light-bites at very competitive prices. Great food, great presentation, great service. At 9.30 p.m. the area be became one's siting room to enjoy a drink, and listen to the lovely band. Of particular mention is the two-piece band, both vocalists, and the man played guitar while the woman played keyboard. Really lovely, and so enjoyable.
Outdoors, The Malton enjoys extensive gardens for walks, seated areas to relax, children's play area just outside the pool and gym. Something for everyone.
The Malton offers so much, that one wants never to leave. I want yo return on my isn't, to complete my win self-indulgent agenda, with spa treatments, loads of sleep and a little bit of sightseeing should the need for lake/mountain viewing in Muckross or Ring of Kerry arise. Plenty of day trips are available. I hope I can do this soon.
Oh, and all staff were lovely, so courteous and professional.
Thank you Malton.

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are nice, 352 was lovely, and spacious for 3.

We were disappointed with the overall experience at the hotel. We stayed here two days, and although the hotel staff was remarkable in every aspect, the restaurant staff located in the hotel is something to be desired. The hotel has two elevators that lead to the same floors, but different areas of the hotel and it's easy to get lost if you go down the wrong corridor. We were huffed at by the restaurant staff when there was no room in the bar to eat dinner, and sat down in the restaurant for a empty table. We didn't think that paying €50 a plate was sensible, so asked to eat from the bar menu instead. The waitress we had seemed completely inconvenienced by this request, as did the restaurant manager. Once we received our plates (fish and chips), we were stared at by several staff members, and the table next to us laughed and made fun of us (loudly enough to allow us to hear them). It was a horrible experience, as I wish that we would've never have eaten in there. The hotel rooms are smaller than expected, but the hot water and pressure were nice. The hotel room doors are paper thin, and you can hear people's conversations as you walk by. We had to slam our door to ensure it closed all the way because it stuck badly. The hotel also has no air conditioning, but that is not uncommon in Ireland due to the temperate climate.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your review on Tripadvisor and we too are disappointed that your stay was not as enjoyable as it should have been, as we are in the business of ensuring that customers recieve a memorial and relaxing experience during their stay at the Malton we would like to apologise for not reaching that overall goal.
I have spoken to my colleagues in the Garden Room Restaurant and in the Accommodation department regarding your review as with all negative and positive comments we feel that we will have a more successful business once there is a solution to any issues that will develop .

I feel that we have a very focused team in the Garden Room Restaurant and I am suprised by your experience we certainly will continue to work harder in the future to ensure that all customers have a enjoyable experience.

I certainly encourage you to visit the Malton on your next visit to Killarney and wish you all the best in the future.

We stayed at the Malton for three nights. The rooms were large and comfortable and wonderfully appointed. Conor and his staff do an outstanding job of making you feel comfortable and welcome. The restaurant (Breakfast included) was the best of our two weeks in Ireland. The kids loved it. The hotel is close to the town and you can walk to virtually everything. We highly recommend this hotel! It is pricey, but worth the money!
