Ok, I want to start this review by saying, this is NOT a castle. It is a mansion built on the crumbling remains of a castle from the 1500s. That being said, it is a very nice hotel.

Our room was the Allingham room with four poster bed, claw foot bathtub right in the bedroom and a separate bathroom with shower in a separate room through a small hallway. The furnishings were very nice with a small coffee table and chairs. The carpet was pretty worn and not stretched well and the bed was not a true king but two singles put together with a ridge down the middle. The WIFI worked quite well in the room.

The Shower was never really hot. The first day it was lukewarm, the second day it was just warm. The hotel is not close to town, but the grounds were beautiful.

The choice of breakfast included in the price were varied and tasty. Joe and Esther serving breakfast were very charming and helpful with travel information.

The room ran $290 a night. For this money I expect a little more than a $100 a night B&B, so hence the four stars instead of five stars

We spent 10 days in Ireland but only two days at the Ballyseede Castle. What a mistake. Our stay at the castle was fantastic. The rooms, the food and the service was excellent. The castle was quite, clean and had a certain romance about it. We actually spent a whole day at the castle rather than site seeing. I think I could spent a whole week at the castle just enjoy the break from the hustle and bustle. Thank you Ballysteede staff for a wonderful stay. Joan & Billy O"Grady USA

This is the real deal! My room was luxury! Huge claw footed tub, separate large bathroom, super comfortable bed.The food is plentiful and tasty. Beautiful terrace with a gazebo. Lovely grounds that have some farm animals.

Room Tip: No a/c. I highly recommend this for any event.

We loved our stay here -- we stayed in the lodge, which is less than a quarter mile from the castle. The pub in the castle is friendly and the bar tender is a great host. The Lodge room was so comfortable and all the details were perfect.

Visited in August for a wedding, venue is fantastic, beautiful drive up to the house itself. Very well maintained. The food was fantastic both as part of the wedding and as ordered from the bar for an early lunch. Didn't stay in any room onsite in the House itself from what I saw they looked well, stayed in the Lodge by the entrance gate, less than a five minute walk and it was beautiful, very modern, with walk in en-suite showers. Only thing I could fault was the door needed to be locked by guests themselves, a few times I entered the door was just closed out meaning anyone could walk in. This was the main door, not the bedroom door I should add.

The Irish Wolfhound on the grounds is gorgeous.

Room Tip: If attending a wedding, the Lodge may be quieter, away from the main party if anyone would prefer an...

Do you want to stay in a castle? A homely castle where you feel welcome and relaxed and very spoilt then Ballyseede is your place.

This is the third castle I have stayed in, in Ireland, and I have to say its the best! It might not be the biggest or have fancy grounds. But when it comes to a great location for all the Kerry sight seeing points, a great comfortable bed and a special feel you cannot beat it. This castle is well maintained and kept inside and out.

The best thing about this castle is the service from the friendly staff. At breakfast we were warmly welcomed by Esther and Joe who are the jewels in the crown of Ballyseede. We had the 'craic' with them and they couldn't do enough for us. We observed them giving tourists advice on things to do in the area something which they revelled in.

We stayed here for our daughters wedding. If you are getting married you could not ask for anything more for your special day. Marnie knows the venue inside and out and will make sure all the finer details for the ceremony and reception are taken care of. You will have no worries at all!!!

We have to tell you that the food is a highlight of the stay at Ballyseede. Our guests who attended the wedding are still talking about how fabulous the food was. (Especially the pork belly and the lamb) Our families and children were made feel welcome and the family rooms were surprisingly large and very nice.

All in all we had a fantastic stay at Ballyseede. We would recommend this venue for a Wedding, a romantic get away, or a special occasion and dinner. You wont be disappointed with this charming, homely and super special venue.

Our plan is to return again and again.............. We hope you enjoy.

Had booked a night at this location as part of a wedding party.
When we checked in to the room was just poor, burnt cup marks on the furniture, dirt and dust around the skirting and an non locking toilet door.
Was not happy but thought as we were 2 hours from home and to arrange something else elsewhere would be to much aggravation we decided to accept it.

This would have been fine until we saw another room that a member of the wedding group was staying in and damn.... this is what a castle room should be, 4 poster, clean etc - nothing like ours and as we were all paying the same price I felt somewhat irked.

Went to the reception to ask for a change but apparently no room was available and were told that all the rooms were different - which is fair enough, but as I had seen another 3 rooms I realized were were being seriously ripped off.

Initially there was a nonchalance by the staff who suggested we swop with another guest, but what guest would swop with us after seeing our room - perhaps I have to wait until they were drunk much later on.

Obviously this was not a solution so we decided we would fore-go our night and not stay and also not drink as we would be driving home later that evening, but the Manager informed me that if we stayed or not we would still have to pay - now, considering we had to book in at 3pm, and this was 4:25pm - and we had gone to the initial reception we used the room in total for about 20 minutes, so I said sue me, but we were not paying.

so returned to the room and started to pack, then 5 minutes later, the phone rang and the Manager informed me that they were not going to charge if we could vacate in 15 minutes.

No problem there.

So, the moral is... Have a good look at the room your allocated before you agree to checkin otherwise you will be dealing with staff who's train of though seems to be the customer is always wrong - and a I use the word customer deliberately in that this is a product, which was falsely advertised and failed to meet up to our expectations.

Apart from this, the grounds are lovely, but the only real relation to this building and the castle that was supposed to be built in 1590 is that they occupy the same space - most of it is concrete covered walls which maybe cover what originally was there but the castle itself is more like a bad disney mockup.

Room Tip: Look at your room before finalizing.
