Ballygarry House Hotel & Spa
Ranked #1 of 14 Hotels in Tralee

The old saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover," adequately expresses my thoughts on the Ballygarry Hotel experience. Nicely situated just outside of Tralee, this hotel appears to be elegant and inviting but, once inside closed doors, its true colors are immediately revealed. The hotel seems to have been recently refurbished and the smart hallways, lifts, and carpets taunt guests with expectations of a positive, memorable, high quality experience. The reality, though, is much different, much grimmer.

We felt like how the cows feel when being shoved around the cattle yard. We didn't matter! The place is dominated by those matronly, disapproving women. Avoid unless you're a masochist!

Leave immediately if you, even slightly, suspect that there's a wedding party taking place. Like other reviewers have noted, the place goes into complete chaos and inefficiency and any guest who is not involved in the wedding is not only forgotten, but, literally, pushed aside by the whirlwind of undertrained, unprofessional, temporary? staff that are running around in circles. They seem to have no connection to the type of vibe they are putting off and how it affects the reputation of the "four star" hotel they are representing.

The 'raise your eyebrows,' cringing moments were too numerous to detail but, at least, the hallways had a warm, welcoming sense to them. Too bad the people at the top of this hotel thought that was all that mattered.

This is a superb place, the minute we pulled in the concierge appeared to help us with our luggage. All of the staff were absolutely lovely, particularly Gina and the girls at the spa. The food was wonderful, the restaurant decorated in a very restful way. The Spa is amazing and definitely worth booking some treatments well before you arrive - they use the "uspa" range which is sumptuous and completely natural and the relaxation room over looks the mountains, outdoor tub and smoothies after treatments. The Bar is a fabulous one too, we turned up at 9.35pm but they still managed to make us a toastie as we were ravenous. All in all i would highly recommend this place and am suprised at some of the other reviews...in my experience staff couldnt have been nicer, the bedrooms are nothing special in terms of decoration but everything else is spectacular.
Definitely worth a visit.

We stayed one night of our 7 night stay in Ireland, but this was by far the best hotel we stayed in. It was luxurious and the rooms were spacious. The staff was courteous and I would recommend it to everyone.

This was one of the nicest weekend breaks that I have had in a long while.

The staff are amazingly friendly. The rooms are spotlessly clean and very tastefully decorated. The food in their restaurant was of a high quality.

There is a beautiful Spa within the hotel. It would be advisable to book this along with your reservation as it is normally very booked out.

I would thoroughly reccomend this for a stressfree weekend. It does not have a leisure complex so may not be suitable for young children

I had a terrible experience in this hotel. The rooms were constantly cold, despite having told the hotel of my discomfort.
The toilet was dirty in my room and it took a while for them to remedy the situation. There were two stains on the sheets in my bed.
When we went down to breakfast, the room was full and we had to wait for a table. It was a buffet breakfast and there was little left. We eventually gave up waiting for rashers, sausages and yogurts.
When I complained to the manager his first response was to ask us if we wanted to check out!! The only reason we didn't was that we were attending a wedding there that day. He then said he would arrange alternative accomodation - we found out later there had been a problem with overbooking.
The sheets were eventually changed but there was no apology and the manager did not check to see if things had improved.
I would do yourself a favour and pass by this hotel!

My husband and I spent two nights at the Ballygarry house during a portion of our honeymoon in Ireland. When we arrived at the hotel, tired from driving all day, there was a wedding going on and the hotel seemed to be in total chaos. No offer was made to assist with our bags and initially we were given a room with two single beds, which was definitely not what we reserved when we booked directly with the hotel months prior. Fortunately, my husband returned to reception and without any trouble we were given the correct accomodations. The room was a bit larger than standard, yet clean and comfortable with a large bathroom. We had internet access available in the room for no additional charge, which was great considering the vast majority of the 10 hotels we stayed at during our travels did not have in room internet access, and if they did there was an additional charge for it. Most likely due to the wedding(s) at the hotel, there was quite a lot of noise in the hallway outside our room until almost morning. We certainly didn't have the most restful sleep during our stay. We dined at Brooks restaurant in the hotel one evening and the lamb my husband ordered was one of the best meals he enjoyed during our entire three weeks in Ireland. My meal was very good as well and the service was very attentive. Aside from the noise generated by other inconsiderate guests interrupting our sleep, our stay at Ballygarry House was fine. Given it wasn't great, I would probably try another hotel next time if we were to travel to the same area again.

Ballygarry is an excellent hotel and the level of customer service makes it what it is-management are obviously very much on the ball when it comes to training of staff, decor, thinking of guests comfort etc. Staff were excellent, in particular the girls in the spa and the men in the bar. The superior room we stayed in was massive compared to the last couple of superiors we've stayed in Ireland. Bathrooms are not overly luxurious or special, but still very good. Loved the little touches like the chocolates on your pillows, juice/smoothies in spa. Food was very good, maybe not as high quality as I was expecting, but very good for what it was. Bar was nice and cosy for a pint. Spa was really great and the highlight of our stay. I would recommend this hotel without hesitation.
