“Wedding”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 January 2014

We would just like to say a huge thank you to Mark O' Sullivan, Mike Ryle and all the Ballyroe Staff. We couldn't be happier with how our wedding went on January 2nd, 2014 and this is all down to how organised, friendly and helpful all the staff were. All the guests were full of compliments for the wonderful food and staff. It's a fantastic venue for a wedding with everything set out beautifully. From the day we went to look at the venue and met Mark, the service could not have been better. Absolutely top class. We will definitely be recommending Ballyroe Heights Hotel.

We spent the weekend at this hotel recently and to be perfectly honest it was just 'ok'.
The setting is beautiful however, it's quiet a distance from the town and once there you are stuck unless you drive (which means you can't drink) or pay for an expensive taxi back.
There were two weddings on the weekend we stayed and we felt like outsiders in the hotel. Every member of the staff seemed to be focused on the wedding party (understandable) however, we were paying guests too and were largely ignored. The food provided at night was poor and the service left a lot to be desired.
On a positive note the breakfast the following morning was better and the views were top notch.
This is clearly a 'wedding venue' and just didn't do it for us and we would NOT return. The disappointing food, poor service and noise from the weddings was a deal breaker for us. I'm sure if you were part of the wedding parties it would be fab but if you are a couple you might feel ignored like we did. There are much nicer hotels in the area that provide top quality food and first rate service. We headed home after our weekend away (our first in over a year) feeling deflated.
''Avoid''

Room Tip: Ask for a room as far away from the weddings as possible.

I was recently at a debs ball in the hotel, where students paid 50 euro a head! The venue was lovely and the staff were strict with IDs an underage drinking, although the food was dangerous undercooked and waiting staff seemed uninterested, and aware of the fact people weren't happy with there meal! We had soup which was a bowl of soggy croutons and a small layer of veg soup at the end of the bowl, the salmon was sitting on a plate for a long time before it reached me as the sauce had a layer of skin and was cold, the other option was chicken which was seriously undercooked as it was pink! The bar closed early, a staff member said to me "they have made enough money so they want to send staff home" that's why it closed also he claimed the drinks had been mixed with water! The night was a let down due to the bad service! Wouldn't recommend to hold a big night at the hotel as it was clear they couldn't deal with a crowd. Have been to the hotel for a Sunday dinner before and was always lovely, I was shocked as were many others!

Stayed 2 nights, early January 2014. Family wedding. Excellent service the whole time. Staff very friendly & helpful. Food: we had wedding meal, 2 mornings breakfast and dinner, all fantastic. .Had a family room which had double & 3single beds. Very clean, spacious & warm. The only down side is there is no pool or playground.

Been coming occasionally for several years to visit family. The best hotel for miles. Staff friendly, welcoming and always kind and helpful. Remember you from previous visits. Latest visit for family funeral, and the staff couldn't do enough to help - compassionate and understanding. Funeral tea at the hotel beautifully done. Great location, mountain view and fairly quiet. Restaurant has the best view of all. Fab food, soda bread and chowder especially recommended. Rooms clean, well-appointed and nice toiletries supplied - bonus if you've flown Ryanair! Thoughtfully laid out with good reading lights and lots of space. Staying here made painful visits bearable.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the mountains and try to go to a high floor as they have trees along the drive!

Recently stayed for a wedding just after Christmas. The food was excellent and everything was served quickly and efficiently. Rooms were lovely and clean and the staff were really nice throughout our stay. The breakfast the following morning was great and we didn't get rushed to check out.
