Croan Cottages
Reviewed 10 April 2012

We stayed at Croan Cottages for 3 nights over Easter and found it to be a beautiful place. The courtyard setting was so beautiful with the blossom trees creating a romantic light. The houses were spacious, clean and bright and still had a lovely cosy feel with an open fire. The extra bathroom was also welcomed in the 3 bed if you are sharing with kids. The option of ordering cooked meals from the owners was also a lovely touch. Although I wouldnt personally be a dog lover, the kids really enjoyed their company as they were very friendly dogs. The other animals on site were also a great treat for the kids to enjoy in a peaceful environment. We found the owners to be very helpful and friendly and we will definitely be re-visiting these houses as some stage in the future. Well worth a visit as a couple or a family - suits all.

We had the most perfect holiday at Croan Cottages over Christmas! We booked several of the cottages, as there was a big family party with people travelling from all over. Francis and Niamh could not have been more accomodating! Everyone loved staying at Croan. Even in winter, the cottages are warm, cosy and well-appointed. They're also much roomier than most holiday cottages, there was plenty of room for us all to sit together in the evening. The location is perfect for people coming from Dublin or Waterford airports and from the Rosslare ferry. We're definitely coming back!

We satyed with Francis and Niamh in June for about a week and we had a wonderful time. They are a lovely family and could not have made us feel more welcome. We have a big family and the larger cottage was more than sufficient for our needs and for our large Newfoundland, Sarah. The kids loved going to see the animals everyday and playing bowls on the lawn. There is plenty of open space and no danger of busy roads for young children. Niamh brought the children up to the walled garden to pick some tasty strawberries that were in season and they loved it. It was a lovely treat to have after dinner and we were welcome to pick them as often as we pleased. Their hospitality was second to none and we have no hesitation in recommending Croan cottages to friends and family and have done. We also just received a beautiful Christmas card from the family with seasons greetings, which is a lovely touch. I'm sure we will be back sometime in the near future.

We really enjoyed the accommodation at Croan Cottages. Beautiful and peaceful surroundings with plenty of animals to keep our grandson entertained. Francis and Naimh could not have been netter hosts. Best tasting tomatoes eve!

We would all thoroughly recommend Croan Cottages for your holiday in Ireland.

This was our second visit to Croan with our son and dog. Really enjoyable time was had by all. The M9 makes travelling around Kilkenny very accesible. We found the cottage to be very well situated for access to kilkenny or down to Waterford. The cottages themselves were very clean and well equipped with all the amenities you could need. We will definitely be back next year!

This was my third visit to Croan Cottages, along with husband, two kids and dog. The opening of the new M9 makes it even easier to get there from Dublin - just over an hour from Newlands Cross. We visited later in the year last time, but this year, the cherry blossoms were in full bloom while we were there and the sight is truly magnificent. The owners warmly welcomed us back and the two resident dogs and peacock were happy to renew their acquaintance with our old mutt, who enjoys the holiday as much as we do. Our cottage, as always, was spotlessly clean, comfortable and welcoming and the grounds and gardens get better and better every year. The weather was very mixed during our stay, but the info. folder in our cottage listed a huge range of activities including a page with rainy day suggestions (including many that are free!), so it wasn't a problem. The kids loved playing boules on the lawn, now that they're old enough to handle the balls. My husband is a keen golfer and angler and he was spoiled for choice -he played and fished in Mount Juliet and Castlecomer, both within easy reach of Croan Cottages, while I enjoyed spending time in Thomastown again - it's a super little village with a huge range of craft workshops and stores, quirky little gift shops, great cafes, pubs and restaurants and a fantastic playground. It's our ideal spot for relaxing as a family and we'll be back again next year.
