peaceful place but a bit out of the way. Nice fields and views, plenty of animals for the children to wonder at. The only downside of the animals is that our picnic table was completely unusuable due to the large amount (over 10 separate piles) of hen poo and on the door step out to the patio area some poo from a larger animal which was in no way fresh. I did notice that the other picnic tables at the other houses were much cleaner however.

otherwise the cottage was well stocked however there was an issue with our water and we had little or no water for 24 hours. We mentioned it on the second morning and it was fixed that day but no mention of apology or discount -even charged the 4.50 euro for electricity as we checked out thought it might have been a nice gesture to ignore this charge given the inconvenience of not having water.

The sofas had numerous stains and the welcome book/folder had an extensive list of charges for all sorts of things although I'm not sure how strict they are on it. There were several light bulbs not working and one lamp had no light bulb in it at all and I'm sure they would have been able to replace all these on request but noone wants to arrive and have to do a stock take in my view that is the owners responsibility to ensure their cottage is in working order. On arrival we were asked for 100 euro of a damage deposit which was not mentioned when we booked and came as a bit of a surprise although thankfully one of our party had that cash on them.

All in all our stay was grand and the rooms were all a good size, the beds were clean and comfy. Wi-fi was nice to have and while a little unreliable certainly not the worst.

This is the perfect retreat for family, friends and couples! Recently seventeen of us stayed here on my hen weekend and we were just completely blown away by the homely welcome, the idyllic setting and the top class, quirky, clean and comfortable accommodation. We were welcomed by two new peacocks on arrival before we visited the pot belly bigs, sheep, horses and of course the friendly black Labradors! We barbecued as the sun set and took in the wonderful surrounding countryside! Francis and Niamh were incredibly helpful and helped us to organise taxis, gave us brilliant advice about where to visit and even helped us out when we (being a little ditzy and hungover!) left a few bits and pieces behind us! Truly a brilliant experience which you could never get at any hotel or regular guesthouse! If you want something homely, well equipped and surrounded by vast green hills and beautiful surroundings look no further...Croan Cottages has it all!

My family and I had a great time in the week we stayed. Its very peaceful and private with rolling fields surrounding the cottages. The house was well equipped and most nights we cooked for ourselves. There is an option to have the owners cook meals for you and several others did this.
Rosslare was 1.30 hours away. Dublin was 2 hours and Kilkenny was 20 minutes. There are no pubs around and having a car is a must but that was part of its charm.
Would we go back? Yes

Our first view was better than a postcard with the trees in the courtyard in perfect blossom. We met Niamh and the children, our cottage did not disappoint, it was well equipped and clean. The view from the back window was great, rolling countryside. This is a great base to tour and see or to unwind and relax. There is so much to do and see in the South East, for us the highlights were Woodstock & Kilmokea Gardens. Our hosts Niamh & Francis are most helpful and hard working. The whole set up is so in tune with its surrounds. Our children loved their Easter Holiday making great friends with fellow holiday makers and our hosts children. It is a safe environment for children to play and also be on a farm. Our puppy also loved his stay with the local walks an added bonus. The cottages are well sign posted locally. We loved that there were recycling and composting on site. We would recommend this to anyone from people with young families to couples on a break.

We stayed in Croan Cottages for a week late last year en route to Dublin via Scotland. We had the distinct pleasure of meeting the owner as well, who gave us a detailed run down of the history of the location, and the cottage, as well as very helpful tips for sights to see and places to visit.

The cottage is extremely well kept, and has all the mod cons one would expect. Beds were excellent, kitchen fully equipped - absolutely nothing to complain about. Quite the opposite. We would like to highly recommend this place.

A lovely place to spend time. Clean and modern cottages with comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen. We had 2 kids who were about the same age as the owners and the four of them became fast friends. Francis and his wife were fantastic hosts. Feeding the animals was a big thrill for our girls. Location is ideal for seeing castles, abbeys, and traveling the countryside on beautiful small roads. Lots of photographic opportunities. If you like fly fishing, golf, or hiking, you can do it all within minutes of the Croan Cottages. We look forward to coming back to spend more time.

We have stayed in crown cottages twice and each time it was delightful. Friendly hosts (and children). Perfect place to get away from it all. But within easy distance of kilkenny should the need arise- not to mention mount Juliet.
