Established in 1324, the pub is build out of the black stone that Kilkenny is so famous for. We were actually looking for music, rather than food or drink, and saw that a band named the Raglan Rogues was playing at 8:30. It was crowded with tourists and locals alike, Some locals mouthed the words to the songs – some pretending to mouth the words – some sang aloud, their hands in the air. It was a joyful place. The talent of the band and the good cheer of the crowd made it a memorable night and we could not resist going back the next to hear the same team that sang beautifully, had charming banter, and between the two of them could play tin whistle, harmonica, guitar, mandolin, banjo and bodhran. Yes, we bought the CD.
