I have stayed here on numerous occasions mostly for stags over the last 10 years. The weekend of the 2nd & 3rd of june was my stag and rafters helped make it a memorable weekend.Nice cosy pub, great service and spotless rooms added to the experience. The food was excellent and there are great value deals for residents.Whatever the occasion look this place up if your looking for accomodation in kilkenny, you wont go far wrong. Conor-Waterford

Where to start.... There was a smell of damp throughout the building, room was pokey & shower was filthy. Manager was extremely rude to us when he realised a member of HIS staff made a mistake with our booking. He even made one of the group leave the premises in disgust! Do not stay here, there are plenty of other lovely accommodation options in Kilkenny!

Where to start....we booked weeks ago for 7 people for a surprise for a friends 30th on Sat 2nd June. Confirmed booking ourselves last Tuesday, Rafters confirmed again on Wednesday - so no problem we thought. We were wrong! They had double booked - ringing on Thursday evening to advise the problem but saying they had arranged alternative 'suitable accommodation', apologising stating the accommodation was €30 and he would provide breakfast for us no problem up until 1.30pm. The manager Damien promised to meet us and walk us down to the accommodation himself.
He was not in work on the Sat so didn't do this. The accommodation was disgusting - imagine an unclean old folk’s home with cobwebs etc. To top it off he then charged us for the breakfast he had offered. When approached about this he claimed never to have said anything of the sort and refused to talk to the organiser who was being very polite to him considering the situation.
Customer service was non-existing with Damien claiming that 80% of accommodations in Kilkenny overbook and it was our hard luck. Incompetent is a compliment for this man.
Having previously staying in Kilkenny on more than one occasion I would recommend anyone to visit the city but stay anywhere but here.
One star is too good a rating for this establishment.

What a wonderful pub. Found the place by chance while on a tour through the city. It's off on a side street, out of the "tourist trap zone." Truly excellent Sunday lamb roast dinner--one of the best meals we had in Ireland. Reasonably priced as well. Nice pub atmosphere. Congenial host and patrons. Would go back in a heartbeat. (Really want the recipe for their sticky toffee dessert--wow!)

We walked past this place on our way into the city for dinner. Staff very friendly and lovely atmosphere. Not as touristy as the other pubs in the city so we liked that. Had a nice chat with the manager / owner. We liked it so much we stopped off again for one on our way home- there was a great band playing too. What else do you want- great pub so make sure you stop by for one if passing.

House-hunting around Ireland, and everybody said I should check out Kilkenny. They were right. Fabulous town, full of pubs full of music & comedy (planned & spontaneous), antique shops full of stuffed peacocks & unstuffy people, cobbledy streets full of bun-shops & buskers... Loveliest female taxi-driver in the world said "This place is cooool!" & it is & it hots up at night.
The Rafter's was invaded by wacky hen-parties, which didn't make for a quiet life, but they were great characters & the fun was irresistible.
Brilliant hospitality & food, informal & easy-going. I'd still like to move there!

Room Tip: The room was homely & welcoming, but by the time you get back to it you'll have forgotten wh...
