I stayed in Hotel Kilkenny over Valentines Weekend in 2008 with my boyfriend. We arrived in Kilkenny in the early afternoon and had no problems finding the hotel, it is located close to the town centre maybe 10/15 minute walk, which would be enjoyable in good weather. We checked in without any problems, the reception staff were very nice and helpful with any queries. The room which we booked was beautifully decorated. The colour scheme was romantic and soft. As it was Valentines weekend, my boyfriend booked a package that included champagne, chocolates and rosepetals strewn over the bed. All in all I think it cost €290 for two people for two nights including this package. As a special treat i do think it was worth it. The room was a deluxe room and had a king size (very comfortable) bed, double doors out onto a mini patio area, very comfy slippers and robe, plazma tv and very nice bathroom with large well lit mirror. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night there, it was nice - very busy. On the second day we had lunch in the hotel bar, I would not recommend this as it was very slow service and the food was really not worth the wait. We stayed in the hotel bar on the Saturday night as there was hotel entertainment and a special cocktail night. This was good fun as the hotel had two men who have won awards for cocktail making internationally showing the tricks of the trade. The crowd in the bar were invited to have a go of their own, my boyfriend won the 'competition' in the end taking home a bottle of vodka and cocktail shaker and dvd pack! The bar has a good outdoor heated patio area, good for smokers who dont want to be in the freezing cold. The hotel has a very good leisure centre with a gym swimming pool sauna and jacuzzi room, possibly more that I dont know about. There was also a small hair salon on site, I used this and the women in there were very nice. Possibly a bit cramped in size but not a real problem. I think there was also a beauty treatment area? The parking at the hotel was very good. I do not see why there would be too many bad reviews at all of Hotel Kilkenny. There was a very mixed clientele in the hotel, I would recommend it to any one without hesitation. On the Saturday night we had dinner in the Italian restaurant 'Ristorante Rinuccini' in the town (as recommended by my bf's mother) really would recommend it, fab food and really romantic and intimate. http://www.rinuccini.com/ Kilkenny Castle is also a must see. Lovely grounds for a walk.
