We stayed in sevral hotels in Kilkenny in the past all of which have been good, I would never have thought of the Newpark until a family member gave us a voucher to stay.
I must say, the hotel has been given a massive overhaul and is nothing like it was! I was very impressed with the new decor and the Flynn group that has taken over have not only poured money into the hotel but obviously have spent time getting the rite staff.... everyone from our check in to check out that we came across was so friendly and attentive. We had our 2 young children with us and the staff were excellent with them too.
Our room was lovely and spacious and very clean.
The food was great, we ate in the hotel on both days, the breakfeast was fantastic we were warmly greeted by a manager, Tom on both mornings who remembered our names and the childrens names too!
We spent our mornings in the Health Club, given the choice we would have stayed there all day! the Staff in the Club were excellent and very helpful, Sinead, Donal, Grace and Andrew made our visits a pure pleasure! they even gave the children some floats and toys to play with in the pool. The pool has been given a complete overhaul, they even have an underwater sound system (the kids thought it was the best thing ever) there is an outdoor infinity pool (adults only) which was amazing, the sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and plunge pool were fantastic too. We had use of the spa relaxation room also but make full use of it as it's adults only too but it was amazing.
I booked in for a facial on the last day in the Spa, they have an organic product range that was fab (sorry can't think of the name of it) from start to finish the spa was excellent, I was floating on a cloud after my treatment, the therapist Joan was excellent and I will be booking another treatment on our next stay.
The bar man Eddie was great, service with a smile every time and so attentive. The chef's at the bar food counter were lovely, I think AnneMarie was one of them, and had no problem will all the extra request we had for them!
The staff totaly made our stay, the facilities and new decor were only the cherry on top!
There is a great Shopping centre - MacDonagh Junction, only a 5-10 min walk from the hotel, it's got all the usual shops, TK max, HMV, Dunnes etc and even have a free kids play area and they had free kids face painting the day we were there too! It's an old famine workhouse and has been restored. The castle in the City centre is a must too and tours of the castle are on a regular basis, the kids loved running around the grounds and lovely big playground for them to play in too.
We will be back for longer the next time, and will be telling all our friends about it too. If you havn't been to Kilkenny before or stayed in the Newpark I can highly recommend both!

My partner and I were attending a wedding in kilkenny last weekend, we decided to stay with the Newpark Hotel as we had heard fantastic things about the hotel and that it was ideal for weddings so we wanted to check it out.

First of all we checked in and were assigned a standard room in the 'older' block which was similar to a 2star hotel. These rooms were located in the basement. We were paying a rate of 169euros bed and breakfastso for that room so i would have expected a superior room, although we assumed a standard room in a 4 star hotel would have been fine. Another issue we had were the signs on the wall with the room directions, two of which we came accross were laid on the ground.

I think the breakfast room is unsuitable as it is too small and putting signs in the lifts asking people to come down earlier to avoid the queues isnt going to work. On the upside once we got to the top of the queue we were greeted by a very welcoming gentleman and all the young staff in the breakfast area were more than helpful, friendly and chatty.

That night we had food and drinks in the Scotts Dove Bar with a few friends, all of the bar staff spoke very politely and were capable of holding a conversation without it being formal and business like. The waitresses in the bar were very efficient and extremilly polite even though we could see that they were under a great deal of pressure.

When we were checking out we were greeted by a lovely young blonde girl, she went through our bill and explained the extra costs that we had put on the room. While she was doing this with us, a kitchen chef barked order at her about a menu and then proceeded to throw a written sheet of paper in her line of work, we thought that this was extremilly unprofessional and simultaneously rude. We then proceeded to ask the girl directions to limerick, she explained that she knows the route well and continued to tell us.

While she was doing that the reception manager ignorantly said to her that there are many more people to check out and not to spend soo much time on the one check-out. We couldnt believe it as we were standing very close and heard the entire thing. The girls apologised on behalf of everything that had happened on check-out and asked if there was anything else that she could do for us.

We spent less than 3 minutes at check-out and considered it to be very efficient. I think that the reception manager is unable to deal with a stressful situation and this came accross to both myself and my partner in a rude manner.

All in all the staff, apart from two were amazing throughout. The older rooms are in desperate need of a refurbishment, being better prepared for busy breakfast is essential and a few DIY jobs to be done around the hotel. If these problems get rectified it would be ideal for a wedding;
the location, just minutes walk from kilkenny
the food, both evening meal and breakfast
the staff, i cannot emphasise this enough.

Few hick-ups with check in, but soon rectified. Restaurant not open for evening dinner, food served in Bistro. Quite good on 1st night, but very dissapointing on 2nd evening. Rooms clean and spacious. Infinity pool super, but main swiming pool certainly needs spruced up. Staff all very friendly and most helpful. The mid week break was booked by telephone, the check out bill was much more than the stated rate, this was adjusted, but just shows how necessary it is to check the bill always!

Just arrived home from the Newpark hotel in killkenny,we got a deal which was 2 nights b'n'b and 1 dinner with a 3rd night free,(accommadation only)we had our son with us whos 7,his stay was free but all his meals including his breakfast was extra, that was the only thing i didnt like about the stay because he only had toast for the 2 mornings with OJ and 1 dinner and it came to €23.50,quite pricey for toast and pizza! The pool inside was lovely with jacuzzi ans the infinitive pool outdoors was lovely and warm, adults only though,We had steak and chips in the pub on the monday night as the main restaurant wasnt open, food was lovely and because the restaurant wasnt open on that night we were given an allowance of 30€per adult to use which was quite good. The Escape Health Spa was nice but can be pricey, nice for a treat, theres a shopping centre nearby which has eddie rockets,Dunnes,No Name and Sasha to name a few.All in all a great break and would reccommend this hotel to all.

We arrived to the hotel on a Sunday afternoon and were greeted by a friendly lady at the desk who was very helpful answering our questions. The room we were given was extremely spacious, modern and very clean with free wifi and a lovely view of the green beside the hotel. The room cleaning service was excellent and the corridors were kept very tidy. We ate breakfast twice and dinner once at the hotel and each time it was superb standard.
The gym and spa facilities are free to use for anyone who is staying at the hotel and towels are provided so you don't need to use the ones from your room. We used the indoor pool (Swimming caps are mandatory) the outdoor infinity pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steamroom, all of which were amazing. The outdoor inifinity pool had to be the best of the lot though, it was amazingly warm and we were using it while it was raining! A truly unique experience. There's also a field with horses grazing to the right of the pool which is lovely to watch while you relax. The dressing-rooms are clean and well facilitated with lockers provided which have keys and wristbands that you can bring into the pool with you, powerful showers with gel provided, and hairdryers with seats and mirrors.
The hotel itself is located roughly 15 minutes walk from the main town so it's handy for anyone looking to be close to town without being right on top of everything. The only niggly problems we had with the hotel were the wifi, for some reason there was a problem with it working on one side of the hotel and this still wasn't fixed after we were leaving, which was 3 days later, also when we were checking out there was an extra breakfast charged to our room, which we didn't have. The receptionist didn't have any problems with taking it off though, however I would urge anyone staying here to check their breakdown charges are correct.
All in all though this was probably the best hotel I've ever stayed in and I will definitely be back sometime in the near future!

We stayed in the family room recently for one night - room spacious - two adults -3 children- a good hotel to bring children- bar food lovely - breakfast great- kids enjoyed pool- this hotel more like a nice 3 star- on settling up bill however - staff at reception tried to bill us for 76 euro for a call to a mobile - we did not make such call and kids could not have as they were asleep at time of call made. Scary manager lady kept repeating same line that the system said we made call. Staff not interested in the paying customer telling them otherwise- we rang number we were supposed to have rang - lady answered and had stayed in same room week before and had phone on auto diall. Anyway mix up cleared thanks to that lady answering our call and getting on to hotel- staff did not in any way deal with this matter professionally and more or less made myself and husband out to be liars. This upset me and left a very bad taste! I will definately not return to this hotel and will not recommend same. Shame on you staff at reception!
