First the bad. The décor is very outdated and the hotel is in desperate need of a renovation - stuffed deer heads are out! Not an ideal location if you are planning on bringing alot of luggage as the walk from reception to any rooms in the back of the hotel is lengthy and maze like with a good few stairs and creaky floorboards in between. The "multi-channel" television consists of approx. 5 channels RTE, RTE2, RTE Junior, TV3 and TG4. Mattresses are very used and soft and the room got fairly stuffy during the night with no AC to assist.

So the good! The hotel is well situated, affordable and clean. Staff are very accommodating, friendly and give decent advice on local restaurants and attractions. The Breakfast is lovely. It serves its purpose and is decent enough although I'd probably try a different hotel next time I'm there.

Room Tip: Ask for a room near enough to reception so to avoid the long walk to the bedrooms

This hotel is affordable and the rooms are clean. The hallways are a maze. We had a room at the back of the hotel which was very quiet, however it was a pain to get to the room. Lots of little sets of stairs which was a pain with your luggage. Overall, it was a good deal for the price.

the staff were very accommodating, the building is old so everything isn't perfect, but it is full of old world charm. the window hinges in room 28 need attention. breakfast was fine. very central location.

I stayed here with fellow students from my university in May 2009. I thought this was a good hotel due to its historical significance as the oldest hotel in Kilkenny. It is certainly a charming place, and I enjoyed my stay here. However, travelers should be aware that there is no elevator, and if you're one of the lucky ones to have your room in the back of the hotel, as I was, be prepared to walk up and down a lot of steps to get there!

The rooms were neat and comfortable, and the bathroom was nice, but there is no air conditioning (not that we needed any in late May!) and it's quite a walk from some of the rooms to the main dining area and check-in area.

We stayed here with friends for three nights in March 2012 and occupied two doubles at the back of the hotel in what we presume to be an annex. The rooms were dated but very clean and also very quiet. King bed, tea/coffee, tv, hair drier. It is a bit of a walk up and down stairs/steps & passages to get to these rooms but you get the benefit of them being quiet at night. Free parking is a huge bonus in this busy town. Great location, being a stones throw from the many pubs and restaurants. Good choice at breakfast, waitress served. The staff are a credit, very friendly and quick to please. Yes it needs money spending on it and yes we would all stay there again

Room Tip: Quiet at the back, but overlooks the car park

After an exciting first day of driving on the other side of the road, we were happy to find the Club House was everything Rick Steves said it would be. The rooms were comfortable, the service at the bar was excellent, food was good and the location is great. Parking in the back was a real plus. Our room was good sized and comfortable. We would stay again.

2 friends and I stayed there last weekend. Very very close to the city centre, free car park, breakfast was excellent and the staff really friendly.
Our (triple) room (#3) was spacious and clean : all that was needed to complete a nice weekend with friends in Kilkenny.
It is an old hotel with a lot of character. Don't expect a brand new building like the Hilton ; however it's more than enough as a base.
The only disadvantage I can think of for some people would be the stairs.
