stayed here for a hen night, the place is a disgrace and needs to be knocked to the ground. firstly, the filthy carpets around the halls stink, the downstairs bar and reception are dark and dingy. myself and two other girls stayed in their "family room" which consisted of three horribly damp musty beds (our pyjamas were actually damp afterwards), the bath in our ensuite actually leaked out into OUR ROOM! and soaked the carpet, so we cudn't even walk around in our socks during our stay. the windows WOULD NOT open! so we cudn't even get some fresh air in to get rid of the mouldy smell, the curtains were stained with filth and the wallpaper, carpets, chairs and curtains were all horribly old fashioned and mis-matching ...... the list goes on but basically, worst hotel/b & b room i have EVER stayed in .................... the only good things about it were the breakfast, and the fact that the barman served us no problem when we got back from the nightclub

Close enough to the centre of town. 10 minute walk. Cheap room rate and tried the food downstairs, which was very tasty. Hope to stay there again if I get the chance. Oh you can walk from the train station aswell, again, 10 minute maybe less walk. No need for a taxi unless you have lots of bags.

Grand hotel. Bit of a walk from the town. All we wanted was a roof over our head for the comedy festival and this place did the job. Booked a twin room. There were actually 3 single beds and a fold out bed in the room so it was quite spacious. The decor is ridiculously dated and the windows are old single-glazed so I'm not sure what it would be like in winter. There weren't any proper blinds so the sun was shining in on top of us bright and early. Not much pressure in the shower. It was pretty clean though and like I say it did the job so I was pretty happy. Breakfast is a big fry. Won't win any awards but I liked it all the same. Staff were friendly.

Avoid at all cost ! A group of us stayed here for a weekend away. The reception area looked like it was used once in a blue moon, it was musty and dirty. The rooms were just disgusting. Funny stains on the bedding & carpets. We were afraid to sleep in the sheets so we slept on top of the bed. The walls were really thin & during the night you could hear people coming & going knocking on the doors & walls. The only good thing about the stay was the breakfast, we were all shocked how good it was. Would never return.

Where to start? How about this: STAY. AWAY.

Honestly, this place is a hovel. Fixtures and fittings, such as they were, looked like they were from the 1900's.

On arrival, the exterior of the place should give you the hint to just leave. We were tired and pushed for time and didn't want to lose the deposit so we persevered. You have to go in thru the bar to get to any staff then be led thru a hallway that stank from the toilets into a foyer that would double nicely for the Bates Motel. Dark, dingy and smelly. Upstairs on filthy, musty carpets to the room. Oh Lord, the room.

Straight off, it smelled. Of age, must, sweat...take your pick. Opened the window to look out onto a devastated backyard of sorts. Curtains filthy. Bed covers that your pet would turn his nose up at. Just all round general grubbiness. No bulb in one light, socket for said light coming away from the wall. Extra pillows flung on the (dirty) floor of the wardrobe. A portable tv with 27 channels of snow. An internal phone that didn't work. A radiator unfamiliar with the concept of heat.

The bathroom floor flooded when the sink was use. Cracked glasses in the bathroom. The shower? Oh my Jesus, you'd get more water, at a higher pressure, if you just squeezed a wet towel. The shower curtain looked like it was put up in 1971 and ignored since.

Clean towels, clean sheets. That was about it. Staff were ok, the two I ever saw.

Avoid this place like the plague. If you are stuck sleep in your car. It's no doubt cleaner.

Room Tip: Pick any other hotel in Kilkenny.

Stayed here for a hen weekend. This hotel could badly do with a makeover. The rooms were in bits, shower was running most of the night. Cracks in the ceilings and all over the room. The curtains barely hanging on the curtain rail. The window wasn't closing properly. We were afraid to open it incase it fell out on the street! It was very old fashioned. Considering we only spent 7 hours in the hotel altogether, it was grand. There was a gang of us girls staying for a hen weekend. We didn't spend much time in the hotel at all.
Kilkenny was a mighty spot. We had a great time there. Went for a cocktail class, dinner and then on to Langtons nightclub. It was some night.
The hotel is out of the town. We got taxis in when we landed but we had to walk home after 3am. It seemed to be a good walk in the freezing cold! We got there eventually. We got back to the hotel and we could get drinks at the residents bar if we wanted. By that time we had enough. The staff were friendly, they even brought us out some sambos which went down a treat after a feed of liquor!
You get a fine breakfast in the morning although it was a struggle to eat it! They'd plenty of everything. The breakfast goes on until 11am on a sunday morning which was great.
I am not sure what price we paid for the hotel as it was a package deal. It was grand considering the amount of time we spent there. If you're on a tight budget this hotel would be for you but you would probably get a nice b&b for the same price.
