“Zoom to Zuni”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

On paper, this hotel checked a lot of my 'wanted' list: centrally located to what I wanted to see, free parking on site, breakfast included so I didn't have to waste time searching around for something in the morning, and a reasonable price. Zuni delivered, and more. When we arrived, we couldn't find the car park so we parked on the side of a neighboring street and walked in to ask directions. The staff was very helpful with the gentleman walking me out to the side street then the main street and pointing out exactly where to go. That's probably the biggest challenge for this hotel: Finding the car park and the entrance. The hotel desk is behind the café (facing the main street) and in front of the fancier restaurant at the back of the hotel and easiest to find from the car park. A little challenging. But the staff were helpful, the hotel has a lift for bags, and the room was spacious and clean. The décor was black and white and crystal 'modern' but the double bed was large and comfy. Our room faced the courtyard in the side/back and was quiet at night. The breakfast is served in the café out front with a choice of items and was delicious. Many local people come in as well, most for a takeaway coffee and maybe a scone or muffin (which wasn't one of our choices, but the rest was so good who cared?) It's easy to walk to the local sights to enjoy this lovely little town. Take time to enjoy the Castle grounds - they are a large park with strolling paths and flowers. Loved Kilkenny and would happily return to Zuni.

Great central location, their own parking lot, and great food in their restaurant and cafe. We had a twin room, very chic and spacious. The prix fixe dinner was very good - NYC quality cooking. Affable staff.
A fantastic base for exploring this part of Ireland.

I booked a group of 13 into Zuni Hotel on a Saturday night! The staff on booking and on arrival were excellent! The rooms were extremely clean & comfortable. We enjoyed a suburb meal Saturday night and I can honestly say the breakfast was one of the nicest hotel breakfasts I've ever had! Zuni is located right in the heart of Kilkenny city and I would highly recommend it to anybody bringing a group to this lovely city!

We arrived on a Saturday night, the reception desk is tucked between the noisy restaurant and the café, it didn’t feel welcoming at all.
My fiancé booked a double room and we were given a twin room (room 202) on arrival. We told the receptionist but he didn’t have any rooms with one double bed so offered to change the bedding to join the two beds together.
The room was very average and seemed out-dated. The TV wasn’t working and the shower door was broken.
It was noisy outside the room, there was a constant background noise and also we could hear the neighbouring rooms in the morning.
The rate was €130 for a night for a double room with breakfast which is overpriced. They charged us €95 but still it wasn’t worth the price. Breakfast was ok.
This isn’t a particularly comfortable or cosy hotel and it lacks atmosphere. It should definitely be cheaper considering the standards.
Also when we addressed our concerns about the twin room or the TV/shower door to the receptionists, they really didn’t seem to care.

What more could you ask, a hotel right in the centre of town with off street parking available and included in the room rate. Friendly staff on your arrival, even late in the evening and fabulous food in the restaurant, the pate was superb as was the beetroot tart tartin, linguine and the salmon. They even altered the salmon to cope with my wife's allergies and had a selection of Irish beers. Breakfast was just as good. The room was large and the bed comfortable, the only negatives we the fan noise from the kitchen downstairs and the bathroom detailing. The mould growth in the bathroom was excessive and for a hotel of this standard shouldn't be there.

A delicious meal in warm welcome surroundings made my return visit to Zuni a worthwhile one. Why has this restaurant/chef not got a Michellin star??
Professional, friendly staff looked after us for the night. Food so delicious that every morsel was a joy. Thank you to all in Zuni.

The staff were so friendly and welcoming!!
The room was very nice yet basic. We walked in from the street through the cafe area with our bags which felt very awkward but we found out after that there is a side alleyway that leads to the hotel. Our room was 202 and it was very noisy during restaurant hours as the fan is outside and the bins are outside the window, So it was a little noisy.
It was a brilliant location for walking around the city, it is close to the castle and main street. Vegetarians be aware, on my first morning there, I ordered a vegetarian bfast and it was just the full Irish minus the meat (one egg, one tomato and mushrooms and toast) but I was well prepared on the second day and asked for 2 of everything. My boyfriend loved his eggs Benedict and my food was very tasty. Lovely staff again in the morning. I unfortunately didn't sample the menu as I had prior arrangements. Well worth a visit if you get a good deal :)

Room Tip: If you mind a fan going during restaurant hours avoid room 202
